Conversations with Jennifer Ngo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Ngo.

Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began branching out on my own as PolishedbyJenn back in 2020! The pandemic impacted many people, and businesses. During this sensitive time, it took a toll on beauty professionals like myself who were not able to continue to work with businesses being shut down for many months. During this time I got the idea to start going mobile as a one-man-band. I gathered my resources together and started small by traveling to a few of my clients’ residences. Testing the waters I would say! And up was the only way I wanted to go from there. Over that period of time, I questioned why I didn’t start sooner ?! I realized I could do this on my own, take control and be my own boss. When businesses slowly started opening back up again, I was in search of a location to start my new business venture, and I took a huge leap of faith not knowing what the future would hold. Although it was challenging at times, it was worth the jump. Starting my own business opened so many other opportunities, one of them being able to co-brand with two other talented colleagues. We created LuxxSparty, a mobile spa party service where we bring the spa to you!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is never a smooth road. Expect the unexpected and the thought of branching out on my own was terrifying. There was some self-doubt along the road. And at times, I didn’t know if I had enough courage to make a big jump. I realized now that starting anything new can be nerve-wracking, especially since I went into it blindly. I went for it In hopes of succeeding and knowing that if there were anything that I failed at, it would be okay and to remain humble, if there is one saying that I do go by is, that if you don’t try you’ll never know, and will always wonder what it would have been like if you did try. Over time I have learned and am still learning the way of entrepreneurship, and will continue to do so. Although, The emotion of uncertainty about the future was discouraging at times, each day it got a little better with a lot of words of encouragement from my loyal clients. With that I gained self-confidence in the business world. If you ever thought about branching out, do it. Do your research, don’t be afraid to ask questions, listen, read and learn, knowledge is power, and once I found my groove everything fell into its place from there.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a beauty professional, with over 8 years of experience, I am very familiar with the latest trends, and services. This profession is very hands-on. People are always asking me “how did you learn all the techniques?” And my answer has always been, the more you do it, the more you will get use to it. There isn’t just one set way to do things, and once you find which way works the best for you, it will come naturally in a matter of time. But it will take some practice. There are always new and upcoming beauty trends. Not just in Nail artistry, but makeup artists, hairdressers, estheticians, and so on and so forth, there is always something new to learn whether it be a new product or a new technique.

I believe what sets me apart from others, is the relationship and rapport I build with my clients and will continue to. It is important to treat your client as an individual, not just as a client base, be open-minded, have good communication, and exceed expectations, in a way that develops respect and appreciation, and I take pride in my work.
