Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Joshua.
Hi Jason, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Jason Joshua, and I’m a Latin Soul and Funk singer from Miami, Florida. My story really begins with an obsession—an obsession with music that carries emotion, longing, heartbreak, passion, and all the beautiful complexities that come with being human.
I grew up captivated by artists like Joe Bataan and Ralfi Pagan, artists who understood that a great song isn’t just heard—it’s felt. Their records taught me that soul music could be elegant, romantic, heartfelt, and deeply honest all at once.
What started as a young man chasing melodies eventually became a life’s calling. I spent years writing, recording, performing, and learning how to tell my story through music. Along the way, I found an audience that connected with the same themes that inspire me: love, devotion, heartache, hope, and the lessons we gather along the way.
Today, through my work with Mango Hill Records and albums like La Voz De Oro, Sonny, and Terapia, I try to create records that feel timeless—music that could have been playing in a candlelit room decades ago or through someone’s headphones on a quiet drive home tonight.
I’ve never been interested in chasing trends. I’ve always been interested in capturing emotion. If there’s a thread connecting everything I’ve done, it’s the belief that people don’t remember perfection—they remember how something made them feel. That’s what I strive for every time I step into a studio or onto a stage
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. The road has been winding, but I think that’s what gives it character. Music has a way of asking everything of you—your patience, your conviction, and occasionally your sanity.
One of the biggest challenges has been remaining faithful to the kind of music I love. Trends come and go, but I’ve always been drawn to songs with heart, melody, and soul. Choosing that path isn’t always the quickest route, but it’s the one that feels most honest to me.
Like many independent artists, I’ve spent years building things one step at a time—writing songs, playing shows, making records, and finding listeners who connect with them. There have been moments of uncertainty, but also moments that felt almost magical, where a song finds exactly the person who needed to hear it.
Life itself has been a great teacher. Love, loss, family, distance, hope—all of it eventually finds its way into the music. Looking back, I wouldn’t describe it as a smooth road. I’d describe it as a beautiful one. The twists and turns gave the songs their stories, and the stories gave the journey its meaning.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Latin Soul and Funk artist, songwriter, and recording artist. My work draws from the rich traditions of soul, rhythm and blues, Latin music, and the golden era of storytelling in popular music. I’ve always been fascinated by records that feel timeless—songs that can make you dance, reflect, or remember someone all within the span of a few minutes.
Over the years, I’ve become known for blending classic influences with a modern perspective. Whether it’s through my recordings, live performances, or visual presentation, my goal has always been to create something authentic and lasting rather than something temporary.
What I’m most proud of is building a career on my own terms and finding an audience that genuinely connects with the music. Seeing songs like “La Vida Es Fría” reach millions of listeners and watching people from different backgrounds find pieces of their own story in my work has been incredibly rewarding.
What sets me apart is my commitment to preserving the spirit of Latin Soul while continuing to push it forward. I have great respect for the artists who came before me, but I’m not interested in simply recreating the past. I want to honor those traditions while bringing my own experiences, voice, and perspective to the conversation.
At the heart of it all, I’m a storyteller. I write about love, devotion, heartache, hope, and the strange beauty of being human. If people remember anything about my work, I hope it’s that it made them feel something real.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would be to focus on building something genuine rather than chasing validation. When you’re starting out, it’s easy to compare yourself to others or feel like you’re falling behind, but every artist’s journey unfolds at its own pace.
I wish I had understood earlier that longevity matters more than momentum. A lot of people can create excitement for a moment, but building a body of work that people return to years later is something entirely different. Be patient with yourself and keep creating, even when the results aren’t immediate.
I would also encourage young artists to spend time developing their own voice. Learn from your influences, study the greats, but don’t lose yourself trying to become someone else. The qualities that make you different are often the very things that will connect you to an audience.
Most importantly, remember why you started. Music is a lifelong relationship. There will be seasons when everything seems to be moving forward and seasons when progress feels slower. Don’t let either one define you. Stay curious, keep learning, and continue showing up for the work.
In the end, trends fade, algorithms change, and audiences come and go. What remains is the craft, the songs, and the satisfaction of knowing you created something honest. That’s a foundation worth building on.
