Today we’d like to introduce you to Helin Cetin.
Hi Helin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Düsseldorf, Germany. Growing up, I gravitated towards singing, dancing, performing, and all the arts. This led me to sing and dance my entire life. I really enjoyed letting my emotions and thoughts out through creativity.
In kindergarten, I had my own handcraft club where I would get the kids together and they would follow what I did. My childhood consisted of one dream, being on stage and inspiring people, making them feel motion through my presence and music. After graduating high school, life took a slight turn for me. I started traveling the US and finding myself, growing in ways I had never before.
Being here really opened my eyes, everything was possible. I realized there is nothing in this universe that is not reachable, not doable. Especially when coming from an immigrant household that expected me to be a Dermatologist, you know how it goes.
Now, I am here officially moved to Miami at the age of 21 and ready to take over the world with my talent.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, definitely everything but a smooth road! Before coming out here and taking the big step of moving from Germany to Miami by myself, I had to deal with everybody (and their momma!) Trying to tell me how to live my musical career, so basically how to live my life.
“You’ve got to start singing in German if you want to blow up”, “No way in hell you can make it with English Music it’s not your first language!”, “You can’t make it in the states, you’re one of the thousands who think they can”. Well, here I am writing this Interview just grateful to know that I did make it. I did make it possible and will continue to do so.
Moving on, living here came with having to work A LOT, overworking myself not having enough time for myself. Finding myself, my motivation, and my balance has been a challenge of its own. I would say the first big challenge that took me at least over half a year was to figure out ways to stabilize myself in my goals, who I really am what I want and what I am capable of doing.
One thing that stood out to me the most and what I am most proud of is the fact that it feels so natural to be here. Everyone thinks I’m American but as soon as they get into a deeper conversation, the different upbringing shows itself for sure. It’s hard for people to understand what I’m going through because they see me as one of them. Even though as an immigrant, I face crucially different struggles than they do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Sometimes I am having a hard time describing what style of music I really do.
I can’t put myself in a box. The norm would say it’s a mix of R&B/Pop, with a sprinkle of Hip-Hop. My special weapon is my voice. Rather than songwriting, during the recording sessions, I bloom the most being on stage. My stage presence is captivating.
I will leave you laughing, crying, confused, and maybe with a couple more emotions.
What matters most to you? Why?
what matters to me the most is to always have a reason, an intention behind everything you do. It counts as being mindful and aware of how you lead your life.
We as humans have more control over our lives than we think. Positive intentions and thoughtful actions are something I had to learn, hence why I pay more attention to it. We are our own masters.
Nothing can change you besides You and the God-given spirit within you. Actions trigger a cause, and the cause will be determined by your action. So choose wisely.
