Today we’d like to introduce you to Glynnis Nieves.
Hi Glynnis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I actually began my teaching career unexpectedly. A teacher at the music school I had attended left suddenly, and I was asked to step in as a substitute. At first, I assisted all the teachers and worked mostly with young beginner piano students. I never planned on pursuing music as a career, but as I started developing programs and working closely with the kids, I saw how deeply meaningful the work was. Watching shy children grow into confident young musicians completely shifted my perspective on teaching.
I stayed at that school for many years, and I was fortunate to have the creative freedom to design new programs, shows, scores, and events. Looking back, many of the ideas we developed were ahead of their time and are now common in music education.
When our director passed away, the atmosphere and direction of the school changed. The core group of teachers felt it was time to create something new—a collective where we could continue training the next generation of artists, not only to excel in the Arts but to eventually mentor and teach others as well. We branched out on our own, and our students followed us to what became our new passion project. It’s been seven years now, and it has grown into something we’re incredibly proud of.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely been a road filled with exciting firsts as well as real challenges. Shortly after we opened, the world was hit with the pandemic, and overnight everything about how we communicated, did business, and taught lessons changed. We had to reinvent our processes, rethink our programs, and adapt quickly to keep serving our students. Not all of the founders were able to continue the journey with us through that period, which was difficult both personally and professionally.
But those challenges also pushed us to grow in ways we never expected. They strengthened our commitment, clarified our vision, and taught us how resilient and innovative we could be when we worked together for our students. The road hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s absolutely been worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At our core, we are lovers of the Arts—it’s who we are, and it’s what defines everything we do. Families come to us for lessons in piano, guitar, voice, drums, and art, but our true specialty goes far beyond teaching individual skills. We focus on transforming our students into well-rounded, confident young artists who understand, appreciate, and participate in the arts on multiple levels.
Our goal is not just to create performers, but to help shape individuals who can walk into any space—on stage, in school, or later in the workplace—with confidence. The artistic training they receive naturally teaches leadership, teamwork, communication, creative problem-solving, and the ability to present themselves in front of others. These are life skills they will continue to use long after their lessons end.
One of the things that truly sets us apart is our ensemble work—particularly our synthonies. Not many schools have even one synthony; we have two. A synthony is an orchestra made entirely of synthesizers, or keyboards, where we blend technology with acoustic principles to create almost any sound imaginable. It allows our students to play across genres and explore music in an innovative, forward-thinking way that keeps them inspired.
I’m most proud of the community and culture we’ve built—a place where students feel empowered, creative, and part of something meaningful. Watching them grow into artists who love the arts, support the arts, and share the arts with others is the greatest reward.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Absolutely. We’re proud to be located in the heart of the Bird Road Art District(close to Tropical Park in South Miami.. It is one of Miami’s most vibrant and creative communities. The district is home to an incredible network of artists, galleries, and studios, each showcasing a wide range of styles and mediums. It’s a place where creativity is always alive, and visitors can immerse themselves in the local art scene while supporting the artists who make it so special.
Being part of this community has shaped our identity as a school. It allows our students to grow and learn in an environment surrounded by working artists, real-world creativity, and constant inspiration. We always invite families and visitors to explore the district, discover the galleries, and see firsthand why it’s such a meaningful home for the arts—and for us.
