Conversations with Erika Boom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Boom.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
FITMAMA was born out of my own personal need to find workout clothing that would fit me well. The brand was born selling t-shirts in my prior business, Belly-n-Kicks, a prenatal & postnatal personal studio in Miami

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It will be 7 years since I started the Company; at the beginning, it was an opportunity since not a lot of brands were avail in the athleisure market. These days the market is overly saturated, which makes it more challenging to stand out

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Industrial Engineer with an MBA in Marketing, Finance, and Telecommunication; even tho I did work as an engineer in my 20s, I followed my love for sports and fitness and entrepreneur into it. Since then, I’ve founded and Managed different companies all related to Sports & Fitness: Belly&Kicks, Rosebandits, BOOM Cycling, and currently FITMAMA

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
We have to learn to create value from adversity! For me, during covid 19 it was an incredible opportunity to reinvent myself. We started selling color face visors that that we had in stock that we had used as fashion accessories in prior years campaigns.
