Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmanuel G. Morel.
Hi Emmanuel G., can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti until the age of 15 when we immigrated to the USA, Miami to be exact. I attended Miami Beach Senior High School and Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. I grew up in abject poverty as we had to look up to see the bottom.
After college, I worked as an Accountant in a bank but soon left to begin a career as a Federal Investigator with the U.S. Department of Labor for 30 years. However, my very first job in this country, as a 16 years old, was in harvesting beans in Homestead, Florida.
Persistence and faith in God have brought me this far and now, I am a Candidate for the U.S. Congress.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it was never a smooth road. Racism was a major factor, being Haitian by birth at that time was a major obstacle in Miami and South Florida.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My career as a Federal Investigator was very rewarding as I got to help American workers. I was also a member of President George H W Bush’s Commission on Organized Crimes and President Obama’s Commission on Human Trafficking. I retired as Assistant District Director with the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division…
I am most proud of a group of agricultural workers that I freed from slavery.
My integrity sets me apart.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My deep, genuine love for people.
