Hi Elizabeth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My start was in Puerto Rico where I am originally from, I’m the youngest of 5 siblings, 4 girls and 1 boy, from a very young age I was very interested in the world of beauty and creativity, I always dreamed of being great and having recognition in the world of beauty. I worked in beauty salons in Puerto Rico, I arrived here in Miami in 2009 and I took a Facial specialist course At Beauty School of America, while I was studying during the day I worked as a waitress at night to be able to pay for the course, from then on I began to fall more and more in love with makeup, and I confess that it was worth the sacrifice because from there I have lived doing what I love passionately, I worked in several stores in the cosmetics and beauty department, in 2014 I came to Sephora where I worked until September 2021, 7 years where I really learned a lot Sephora was my great school where I was able to polish my makeup talent and learn a lot of the best brands on the market and their ingredients, there I managed to become Beauty Studio Coordinator and share my experience and tips with the new girls, I am currently a single mom and I live alone with my 9-year-old son in Miami, a year ago I started my own line of eyelashes which I am working with a lot of effort, Ely Glam Lashes this is my big dream and some other beauty products that I have added to the line , working to make it grow and one day be next to the great and popular beauty lines!!! I also continue doing what I am most passionate about, which is makeup, beautifying women and helping them highlight their natural beauty… I do makeup for brides, teenagers, professional photography, makeup for baby showers, all kinds of events…
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth path, arriving in a country where you are completely alone is difficult and sad, also the issue of language makes the situation a little more difficult for you, on many occasions I found myself with so much to give and say that not speaking English it correctly limited me on occasions, making yourself known and letting people see and know that you are good at what you do is difficult, since there are many very good people out there also doing incredible things just like you!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Professional Makeup Artist with more than ten years of experience, I specialize in highlighting the natural beauty of women through makeup, my type of clients are Brides, Bridesmaids, Quinceañeras, Makeup for Photoshoot, etc… My work is my cover letter. I like that my work is clean and impeccable, I know many well-known and very popular makeup artists with whom I have collaborated and greatly respect and admire, I am currently working on my great project which is my line of Ely Glam Lashes, where have I gone including others very interesting products like the “Magic Sticky Eyeliner” which is a sticky eyeliner that you apply to your eye and stick your eyelashes there it is very modern, easy and quick to use when putting on makeup, it saves you a lot of time and anyone can use it! I live very proud of doing everything I do. I live proud of being a mother who struggles to get ahead through the talent that God has given me, I really enjoy what I do, I have always believed that there are no small talents, they are all great talents If we put passion and discipline… What differentiates me from others? I would say that the seriousness and consistency with which I see and do my work for me that a client trusts me with their face on an important occasion for them is very important for me too and my work on that client must be impeccable, I see a lot on social media that everyone calls themselves a “Makeup Artist” but it is a profession that takes a lot of work, continuing education, etc.. for me, it is not a fashionable job, much less a hobby, it is what allows me to take food home and thanks to my talent as a Professional Makeup Artist I have been able to grow and get ahead in this country…
