Today we’d like to introduce you to Dina Solomon.
Hi Dina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
When I was about 16, I followed my sister into London. I did my undergraduate with a focus on fashion in relation to communication and psychology. Throughout that time, I was doing internships for luxury fashion showrooms, and stylists, and managing a luxury Italian boutique. Next, I got my master’s at the London College of Fashion. Here my focus was luxury concierge fashion styling, meaning I am available for any fashion need, traveling with them, lookbooks that feature full outfits as well as closet organizing, I do it all.
My sister Elana and I started our styling business called stylishlysolomon in London and Paris but eventually decided to move to States to see the clientele here. Besides my business with my sister, I was able to grow as I did more management and become head of clienteling as well as visuals for a few different brands. It was very important to me to learn & try all aspects of the industry so I can always give the best service to my clients. After living here for a couple of years, I was recruited by Saks for one of their top clients to be her stylist. For about two years, I just worked exclusively with her.
I wardrobe her for Fashion Week in Paris and Milan, traveled with her around the States, did/do lookbooks for all her clothes (digital and hard copy) maintain her closet, and do all her receipts for anything purchased. Five years later, she is still my client but I now have other amazing clients as well that I can do the same services and experiences. I can get my clients very exclusive items from Chanel to Valentino and more! It is so important to me to make sure each client is getting items and full looks that are always catered to them and never looking the same or dressed like me. I want to make them feel their most beautiful and confident.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Although I wouldn’t take anything back, of course, the fashion industry can be very intense. I was very lucky to get started in London as there is a sense of community in the fashion world. When I moved back to the States, it was a very different experience and way more cutthroat.
I had to learn very fast that people can be very cruel if they want to take your job. I have had numerous times different stylists try to make up lies about me or try to take my clients. My advice is to be kind, don’t get into the mix, don’t gossip. Do your job very well and make sure you and your client have a beautiful relationship because that is all that matters. If your client or the company you work for is loving what you are doing, then you are doing brilliantly. I always try to keep positive, and not take anything too seriously or sensitively.
It can be hard but keeping that distance mentally will just help you to succeed. I also truly believe this idea of being cruel or taking someone down for a position is so beyond antiquated and shows the age of that person. I believe the new & younger people coming into the industry want a more collectivist community.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a luxury fashion stylist in Sak’s private personal shopping club known as the fifth avenue club. I am known for dressing & giving my clients access to exclusive pieces & events (from Fashion Week to high jewelry to even couture). I dress my clients head to toe, offering lookbooks for them to hang on the clothes of each outfit as a printed and/or digital hard copy. I travel with my clients if needed to make sure all their fashion needs are sorted. My goal is that you have no stress and I am your second hand.
I look at my styling relationships always as a collaboration. I want my clients to have a voice and never feel pressured. It is so important for each person to feel like themselves while also elevating their style goals. Again, I will never dress the client in my style or what I want them to be; rather I dress them with their preferences but still take them to the next level.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Of course, if anyone is ever looking for a stylist and to take their fashion to the next level I am your girl. My clients range from kids up until their seventies.
I style men and women as well as kids. I truly love fashion and love getting to do full fashion take overs to help you with all your needs!
