Conversations with Dana Villaluz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Villaluz.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started as a public school teacher, guiding students from point A to B. It helped me developed a mind for goal setting, backwards planning, milestone setting, and data tracking. I found these skills to be highly transferrable to businesses when they have a goal to reach, to create a realistic plan to reach it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been smooth. When I first launched, I said ‘yes’ to everything and everyone. Anyone who’d hire me. After a while, you learn that not every client is a good fit with you and not every ask is your forte. I had to refine how I communicated and what my offerings were. I also had to get clearer on who I wanted to help and why. Part of what I do to help business owners and organization leaders now is dig into what their mission statement is and truly dive into they ‘why’ of what they are doing. Often times this re-sparks motivation and leaders clarify what is important to them and what is not.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I simplify strategy for business owners and organization leaders. I guide leaders out of the overwhelming amount of daily decisions they feel they need to make and clarify with them what is the actual priority so that they have a direct and confident path for forward movement. Business owners will often come to me stressed, unsure, have a great idea they dont know how to execute, or want to get their team working together on the same thing. I come in and make sure the direction is well known to all and the step by step is easy to follow.
I am most proud of one of my clients who tripled her revenue within the first quarter or working together. With the clarity of a concrete plan, she was able to say no to the things that were distractions and focus all of her efforts on moving the needle.
What sets me apart is that not only do I ensure these business owners are growing their business, I ground them in the reality of their actual resources and make them look at their available time and ask themselves, ‘do I have the capacity to implement this right now’?

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the Fort Lauderdale is growing in the support they have for small businesses and especially these growing groups for people who are just starting their business. Taking a leap to start a business can be scary, but with a great community and connection, it makes the ups and downs easier to navigate.

What I like least about our city is probably just the unbearable summer temperature.
