Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Ricciardone.
Hi Carla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am owner and the master cosmetic tattoo artist at Sculpted Studios. Currently, we have three locations in New York and Miami with additional locations opening in 2022. We specialize in modern hyperrealistic Permanent Makeup and Scalp Pigmentation treatments. Having pioneered techniques such as Lip Blush for Melanin Rich Lips has put Sculpted and our artist at the cutting edge of this highly coveted technique.
Our training academy which receives students from all over the globe is one of a kind we concentrate heavily on ensuring our students comprehend not only the how behind the techniques but the why behind each of the choices they will make as artists, believing that to become a masterful artist you must have a solid understanding of the science behind the art. To ensure our training programs go above and beyond all of our studio artists are AAM (American Academy of Micropigmentation) Gold Artists and our all of our training programs are Platinum Certified. The highest honors an artist our training program can be awarded in our industry.
As an award-winning artist, innovator and industry leader, I have presented my signature techniques and highly sought-after treatments styles and science across several platforms including the many conferences I have attended worldwide.
Now that you know what I do and how serious and passionate I am about my studio and career everyone what’s to know where it all began.
I’ve been doing permanent makeup for 6+ years and Sculpted did to begin this way, in fact it started from extremely humble beginnings. I began this journey as a way to cope with as unforeseen situations in my life. When I was 23 weeks pregnant, my daughter was born under a pound. Her birth introduced me to the world of cosmetic tattooing, as the nursing staff suggested I find something to calm my mind and occupy my time. “Learn something repetitive” they told me. Since knitting wasn’t for me, I started searching for something else and I found PMU. I stayed up countless hours in the hospital around the clock for months on end and practicing on latex became my salvation. No matter where my career takes me, her strength is always my inspiration and motivation to be the best at what I do regardless of what was happening, I stayed consistent in building my career.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Although I love what I do, it was not easy to get to where I am today. Starting my business and expanding to having my own academy for permanent makeup has been challenging in many ways. However, consistency is key for me and I did not stop until I reached my goals. Even now, I learn something new every day. Starting this journey has had many obstacles but regardless of those obstacles, I have learned real-life experiences that have helped me perfect my craft and teach my students the proper way to do things.
The main challenge I experienced was time management. Finding time for myself between my family, my career, travel, and my academy was something I had to learn to do. By setting time boundaries and eventually delegating my time, I was able to work through this. Establishing a team was essential and has helped me not only as an educator but as a business owner.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work consists of working with many different clients from all over the world, I am a cosmetic tattoo artist and educator I do eyebrows, dark lip neutralization, lip blush, eyeliner, 3D areola reconstruction, as well as removal.
What I’m mostly known for is my work with dark lip neutralization, many men and women have melanin-rich lips or hyperpigmentation on their lips and my objective is to boost my client’s confidence through this procedure.
I am most proud of being able to properly educate my students on a difficult, sensitive treatment that has a lot of misconceptions. I’m also very proud of how far my students have come and hearing good feedback progress from classes I have taught.
What sets me apart from others is I share my knowledge that I have spent years learning with my students even all my tips, tricks, and secrets that made me better as an artist which most people don’t do, and knowing I have helped my students flourish in their business and seeing their progress throughout my trainings.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
An app that has helped me in my business has been what’s app. On this app, my students have the access to talk to me and other students who have taken my course to follow up with the work they’ve been doing and ask me about any questions or doubts they may have after training.
