Conversations with Brooke Alvarez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Alvarez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up in Port St. Lucie, I always had a love for beauty, fashion, and creativity. Looking back, I can see that my passion for the beauty industry started long before I ever picked up a nail brush professionally.

As a little girl, I loved playing “salon” with my mom. I would spend hours doing her hair, makeup, and nails—and if she was lucky, I’d even throw in a massage. At a young age, I discovered how much I loved helping people feel beautiful, confident, and cared for.

As a teenager, my love for nails continued to grow. I started working at 14 years old and spent much of my hard earned money traveling to Lake Worth to have my nails done by artists whose work I admired. I was fascinated by the creativity and artistry behind nail design.

When I first entered the beauty industry, I explored several creative paths, including hair, makeup, and even special effects makeup. While each experience taught me something valuable, none of them truly felt like my calling.

At 20, I moved to Miami, where being surrounded by art, fashion, and talented creatives expanded my vision and inspired me to think bigger. Four years later, I moved back home to Port St. Lucie and accepted a management position. While I was grateful for the opportunity, I knew I wanted more.

The idea of becoming a nail technician came unexpectedly, but once it did, everything clicked. I realized nails had always been a passion of mine without even realizing it. They say what’s meant for you will always find its way to you, and that’s exactly what happened for me.

I dedicated myself to learning the craft, practicing daily, completing nail school, and investing in advanced education through courses with established industry professionals. From there, Touch of Blu was born.

Taking the leap of faith to leave my management position was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I began servicing clients full-time from home and within just three months was able to move into my first salon suite. A few years later, I expanded into the luxury private suite I now call home.

Today, I’ve been in the nail industry for four years. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of serving hundreds of clients and mentoring more than 10 students, some of whom now run successful nail businesses full-time.

What I love most about this career is the connection. Some of my clients have been with me for years and have become like family. Being able to express myself through art while helping others feel confident and beautiful is something I’ll never take for granted.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that dreams are worth chasing. There will always be people who doubt your vision, but don’t let that stop you. Five years ago, I never imagined my life would look the way it does today, and I’m excited to see what the next five years will bring.

Take the leap. Trust yourself. Keep going. You are far more capable than you realize, and your dreams are absolutely worth pursuing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the biggest challenges I faced was learning how to run a business while building one from the ground up. I experienced financial struggles, learned how to properly manage and reinvest my money, and had to push through doubt from both others and myself. I also found myself comparing my journey to others, wondering if I was doing enough.

Over time, I realized that growth isn’t a race. The moment I stopped comparing and focused on my own path was when I truly began to thrive. Every challenge became a lesson that helped shape the business owner I am today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a luxury nail specialist, educator, and owner of Touch of Blu, a private nail studio located in Port St. Lucie, Florida. I specialize in custom nail artistry, luxury manicures, and creating an elevated one-on-one experience for every client who sits in my chair. In addition to servicing clients, I also educate aspiring nail technicians through hands-on training courses designed to help them build confidence and successful careers in the beauty industry.

What I’m most proud of is building my business from the ground up and creating a loyal clientele that has supported me throughout my journey. Many of my clients have been with me for years and have become like family. I’m also incredibly proud of the students I’ve mentored, several of whom have gone on to build successful nail businesses of their own.

My commitment to both artistry and experience is something I’m most proud of. I don’t just provide a nail service—I create a personalized luxury experience where clients feel relaxed, valued, and confident. My attention to detail, passion for creativity, and genuine love for connecting with people are what make Touch of Blu unique!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to trust yourself, protect your peace, and stay focused on your own journey. It’s easy to compare yourself to others, but true growth happens when you stop chasing what everyone else is doing and start doing what feels right for you. The right opportunities will come when you’re aligned with your purpose.
