Today we’d like to introduce you to Azari’el Sudan
Hi Azari’el, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started modeling at the age of 15. I have a family friend who is a designer and she’d always use me as a fit model to make alterations to her garments. She had this long hallway in her Harlem apartment that became my first runway. She encouraged my dad to sign me up for model classes and once I started I just fell in love with it. Ever since then I’ve been freelancing for about 10 years before getting signed overseas in Germany.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not a smooth road. Ha! I don’t think any journey is smooth. Especially that of a creative. The road was a lot of failing and learning how to understand the business. The main struggle for me was finding my identity. I’ve gone to many agency open calls and most of the time, they don’t give feedback so I asked the agent what I can change about my look and after looking at my portfolio, she said I need to find one hairstyle and stick to it until I’m represented and they make the changes. Years after, I still struggled finding my look – until 2020, my father recommended me to get a buzz cut—I always had my short so I figured; why not – and immediately loved! I knew it was it!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Outside of modeling, runway being my specialty, I’m into fashion design—now I’m no seamstress; but I do visualize a unique design, sketch my idea as best as I can and I have a seamstress bring my idea to life. I have a start up brand called Sirenn Seductions; a Vintage Lux Intimates & Sleepwear collection. It’s my passion project until I can turn it into a lucrative business. I’m known for a few different creative outlets ie: cooking, model development, (hobby) film photographer, fashion stylist and creative writing.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Yes. I listen to a lot of self development books and podcast. I’m also into metaphysics, content about the source and how the world is created. One of my favorite books is ‘Breaking the habit of being yourself’.
