Conversations with Ashley Gutierrez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Gutierrez.

Hi Ashley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my business in a small room in my house, sharing the space with my mom who also is an esthetician. At the time, it was just a way to make extra money during college, but as my clientele grew, so did the dream. In 2019, we opened Mercy for My Skin, named after my mother who taught me everything I know. After many ups and downs, we’re still standing five years later. What makes Mercy for My Skin unique is that it was created for the everyday woman the mom, the sister, the neighbor, the grandma, the friend. We wanted a space that feels like you’re visiting a friend. In a big city like Miami, it’s easy to miss out on real connection, so we made it our mission to create a safe, warm place where women can feel seen and cared for while getting their facial, wax, lash lift, or brows done.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It wasn’t a smooth road. We opened the spa during a pandemic, and for a moment we truly thought it would lead us to failure but instead, it taught us to have faith. We’ve made financial mistakes, we’ve failed at things, and we’ve had to learn the hard way. But every setback helped me understand how to run my business better and even taught me how to handle paperwork and systems that now benefit not only my business, but others as well. Hardship shows up in many forms when you own a business, but the best way to face it is with the mindset that there is always a solution. And if that solution isn’t easy to find, it’s just an opportunity to get creative.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Mercy for My Skin, I specialize in corrective skincare, facials, waxing, and enhancing natural beauty through services like lash lifts and brow shaping. I’m known for creating a warm, welcoming environment where women feel comfortable, seen, and cared for almost like visiting a friend rather than a traditional spa. I don’t just see a face; I see skin that tells a story—what it’s been through, what it needs and how it deserves to be nurtured. Our skin protects every organ we have and plays a vital role in how we experience life and I honor that with every service I provide. What I’m most proud of is how many clients trust me not only with their skin but with their confidence. What sets me apart is the balance I bring real results backed by knowledge, paired with a personal touch that makes every appointment feel genuine and uplifting. My goal has always been to provide effective treatments while making each woman feel valued, safe, and understood.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is creating a space where women feel safe, understood, and genuinely cared for. I grew up watching my grandmother sacrifice herself every day for her children and grandchildren, including me. She gave so much that she never had time to sit down and care for herself, not even for a moment. Now that she’s older and finally has the time to breathe. I’ve watched her begin to self-actualize in ways she never could before because lack of time or lack of finance. Women like her women who carry so much, who put everyone else first are the reason I do what I do.

Skincare used to be a ritual for women, a moment to reset, reconnect with their inner core, and honor themselves. Today, it’s often treated like a luxury, but it shouldn’t have to feel that way. I want Mercy for My Skin to bring that sense of ritual back where women can let go, relax, and feel replenished, even if just for an hour. Helping women reclaim a piece of themselves, feel good in their skin, and be reminded that they deserve care that’s what matters most to me.
