Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Lobos.
Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my framing career in 2014 when I was shoved into framing at Michael’s. After being a framing manager there for 4 years it was time for me to broaden my framing experience and I moved to manage a few custom frame shops around Miami. Fast forward to 2024 and I was at a cross roads on what I wanted to do with my career. While working at a frame shop in Miami, I started an art handling business- so transporting and installing art for clients. With the additional income from this business I was able to help my wife open her tattoo studio. While she got her studio up and running I was working both jobs. Once she started getting clientele, she told me that she wanted to use the money that she has made to open up my own custom framing shop. This totally came out of left field as it was always something we talked about but seemed very far fetched. In May 2025 we put down the deposit for a shop down in Homestead and I built the shop from the ground up. So far we have been growing steady and have clientele from the upper keys and even the Homestead Speedway.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our road to owning my shop has been full of ups and downs. We were working at a family company from 2020-2024. The industry crashed and we were left without work for months. I ended up going back to framing after a small hiatus. Since going on our own we were able save money for both my wife tattoo shop and to build my frame shop. Luckily we were able to save enough money where we did not need a bank loan. I am happy to say that we have our business debt free. It did come with plenty of financial sacrifice and dealing with a new born in 2024 was an added hurdle but I’m proud to say with my strong and supportive wife that we’re able to stand now and look back proud of what we have been through
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In custom framing we frame anything and everything you can think of. You name it we frame. We specialize in high end preservation framing while most shop in Miami do quick in and out framing skipping the preservation steps. Our clients come to us because of our reputation of preserving peoples artwork. What I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish is curating a clientele that cares for quality and care for their valuables. We have garnered a reputation for white gloves service and that is something we are really proud of here. This is truly what sets us apart from the rest of the shop in Miami.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Taking risks goes hand in hand with starting any new business. At the time of building my shop I was working full time at a frame shop in Miami. They did not approve of me opening a shop that was 30 miles away from them so I know that I had to leave that shop to fully commit. Luckily with my art handling business giving me some income I was able to leave that job and stay afloat with the bills. I was no longer having the cushion of having a weekly check. This is the most scary part of venturing out on your own as the income now solely relies on you garnering business. At the end I would do it again 10/10. There is nothing like the freedom of being your own boss and having no one to answer to except your clients.
