Conversations with Alma Ramirez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alma Ramirez.

Hi Alma, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My path into acting and voice-over hasn’t been traditional, but in many ways that’s what makes it meaningful. Professionally, I built a career in healthcare research administration and project management, where I’ve spent years leading complex research initiatives and supporting medical innovation. That work taught me discipline, leadership, and how to navigate high-stakes environments.

At the same time, storytelling and performance had always been something I was drawn to. I eventually decided to pursue that creative side of myself more seriously and began training in acting and voice-over. What started as a creative outlet quickly became something much bigger.

Since then, I’ve continued building my career in the entertainment industry while balancing my professional background in healthcare. I’ve worked on commercial campaigns, theater productions, and voice projects, and I’m currently SAG-Eligible. I continue to train regularly and invest in developing my craft, especially in voice acting.

For me, the journey has been about embracing both sides of who I am — the analytical and the creative. That balance has shaped the way I approach storytelling and performance, and it’s ultimately what led me to where I am today: continuing to grow as an actor while staying grounded in the experiences that shaped me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many people pursuing creative work, one of the biggest challenges has been learning how to navigate an industry that involves a lot of uncertainty and rejection. You can prepare, train, and give your best performance, but booking a role is never fully within your control. Learning not to take rejection personally and instead see every audition as an opportunity to grow has been one of the most important mindset shifts for me.

Another challenge has been balancing two very different professional worlds. I built my career in healthcare research and project management, which is structured and predictable, while the entertainment industry is much more fluid and competitive. Finding a way to pursue acting seriously while maintaining a demanding professional career required a lot of discipline and time management.

There are also practical challenges that many people don’t see — investing in training, headshots, classes, and equipment, and constantly working to improve your craft. But those challenges have also made the journey more rewarding. They’ve pushed me to stay resilient, continue learning, and remain committed to the creative path I’m building.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Miami-based actor and voice-over artist who loves telling stories that feel real and relatable. Most of my work has been in commercial acting, where even a few seconds on screen can capture a genuine moment or emotion that audiences connect with. I’m also expanding my work in voice acting, which I love because it allows you to create an entire character and world using only your voice.

My path into the entertainment industry wasn’t traditional. Professionally, I built a career in healthcare research administration and project management, working in environments that are analytical, structured, and high stakes. Acting started as a creative outlet, a way to reconnect with storytelling and performance. Over time, that passion grew into something much bigger, and I began pursuing it seriously through training, auditions, and professional projects.

One of the moments I’m most proud of was booking my first national commercial campaign. Seeing a project I worked on reach millions of people was both surreal and incredibly rewarding. It reminded me how powerful storytelling can be, even in the smallest moments.

What sets me apart is the balance I bring between discipline and creativity. My professional background taught me preparation, resilience, and professionalism, and I bring those qualities with me to every set or recording session. At the same time, I’m deeply curious about people and emotion, which helps me bring authenticity and warmth to the characters I portray.

I’m someone who believes strongly in growth, so I continue investing in acting classes, voice-over training, and coaching. For me, acting isn’t just about booking roles — it’s about building a career centered around storytelling and connection.

For me, the magic of acting is in those small human moments — the look, the pause, the feeling that makes someone watching think, “I know exactly what that feels like.”

Being part of Miami’s creative community has also been incredibly inspiring. There are so many talented artists and storytellers here, and I’m excited to continue growing, collaborating, and seeing where this journey takes me.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was very hardworking and disciplined from a young age. I took my studies seriously and always tried to challenge myself academically, but I also loved being involved in different activities that helped shape who I was. I was a Girl Scout, part of the chess club, and sang in choir both at church and at school.

Those experiences taught me a lot about discipline, teamwork, and confidence. Chess helped me develop patience and strategic thinking, while choir gave me an early appreciation for performance and using my voice to express emotion and connect with others.

Looking back, I think those early experiences really shaped my personality. I’ve always been someone who enjoys learning, setting goals, and putting in the work to achieve them. At the same time, those creative and community-based activities helped nurture the expressive side of me that eventually led me toward acting and storytelling.
