Today we’d like to introduce you to Alissa Westcott.
Hi Alissa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My own healing journey is what first led me down the path of beauty and wellness. I found myself constantly searching — researching health, wellness, and what it meant to truly grow as a woman. The more I learned, the more I realized that beauty wasn’t just surface-level. It was about feeling whole, balanced, and alive.
The next thing I knew, I was leaving college and enrolling myself into Aveda. My life changed forever. At Aveda, I discovered the philosophy that beauty and wellness are inseparable. I learned the power of clean, high-performing products and the truth that what we put on our bodies is just as important as what we put in them. That foundation shaped not only my artistry, but also my values: beauty should elevate, not compromise, our well-being.
At the same time, life was pulling me in a very different direction. I was faced with a series of health challenges that didn’t resolve quickly — they accumulated and compounded over years. It often felt like every time I was gaining momentum, something would come along to knock me back down. On top of that, there was loss, disappointment, and moments of deep letdown both personally and professionally.
But behind the scenes, my faith was the constant. Even when I felt unseen, unsupported, or worn out, it was my faith that kept me standing. Every time I thought I might give up, I found myself back in the salon chair with a client, reminded of why I started: to help people not only look beautiful, but to feel whole again. That passion — and my belief that beauty can be a form of healing — pulled me forward when nothing else did.
Then the world shifted. When COVID hit and everything stopped, I found myself — like so many others — locked inside with nothing but time. Instead of letting that season break me, I leaned into it. I poured myself into mastering a hidden extension method I had been so passionate about, and it completely transformed the way I was able to serve my clients. It gave me a new edge, new purpose, and a way to elevate women in ways I had only dreamed of before. Through every setback, my calling was always greater than the obstacles in front of me.
Ten years in and I’ve grown from a stylist behind the chair into a businesswoman who hops to one day help other brands position themselves in ways that feel authentic and powerful. I’ve used this same process in my own career — turning my setbacks into stepping stones and building a personal brand that reflects both resilience and reinvention.
Looking ahead, my vision is to expand beyond the salon and digital space into hosting retreats. I see these retreats as a natural extension of my journey — immersive experiences where beauty, wellness, and healing intersect. They will be spaces for women to reconnect with themselves, just as I’ve had to do time and again after loss, after disappointment, and after starting over.
The truth is, my story has never been a straight line. It has been a journey of becoming — through health struggles, through heartbreak, through faith, and through relentless love for this work. And as I continue to grow, my mission remains the same: to create beauty that restores, heals, and empowers.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all especially jumping into a salon suite on your own, which I have now done 3 times!— but I’ve come to see that the obstacles shaped me just as much as the wins. Along the way, I’ve faced health challenges, moments of deep loss, and seasons where I felt like I was starting over again and again. There were times I wondered if I could keep going, but every setback became a lesson in resilience.
Even in the hardest seasons, it reminded me that there was a greater purpose in the work I was doing. And my passion for beauty — not just as artistry, but as a way to help women feel whole again — gave me the drive to keep moving forward.
The road hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been meaningful. Every challenge has sharpened my vision and deepened my commitment to creating spaces where women feel seen, restored, and empowered.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At my core, I’m an artist who uses beauty as a tool for transformation. I specialize in luxury hair color, makeup artistry, and extensions, with a focus on helping women step into the most confident version of themselves. I’m known for creating looks that feel elevated and timeless — but also deeply personal to each client. For me, it’s never just about the service. It’s about the experience of being seen, cared for, and leaving with a renewed sense of self.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just a technique I mastered or a service I offer — it’s that I’ve been brave enough to continually bet on myself. I built a brand and a location that reflects who I am and where I’m going, even when the road was uncertain. I never gave up, even when challenges made it tempting to step back. That resilience — and the ability to create something that speaks directly to my goals and values — is what I carry forward every day.
When COVID hit and the world slowed down, I leaned into that same bravery. I used the stillness to master a hidden extension method I was passionate about, and it completely transformed my business. It allowed me to bring something new and exciting to my clients — a way to elevate their look and confidence in a lasting way.
What sets me apart is how I blend artistry with intention. From my earliest training at Aveda, I embraced clean, high-performing products as much as I can and the philosophy that beauty and wellness go hand in hand. That approach is the foundation of my work today. Whether I’m styling a bride, working with a professional, or reimagining something, my goal is always to help them align their outer look with their inner strength.
Looking ahead, I see my work expanding into even bigger spaces — from branding to, eventually, hosting retreats — where women can experience beauty, wellness, and healing in a deeper way. My mission has never changed: to use beauty as a bridge back to confidence, authenticity, and power.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Resilience, above all. The ability to get back up after setbacks has shaped every part of my journey. Strength and wellness have also been key — making sure I’m building on solid foundations and staying aligned in mind, body, and spirit. And behind it all, my faith and the bravery to continually bet on myself have allowed me to keep growing, no matter the challenges.
