Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Cintrón Irizarry
Hi Alison, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello! I’m Alison Cintrón Irizarry, originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico and I’m an artist; I’m a Licensed Facial Specialist in the State of Florida and Certified Beauty Professional. I currently work on my own at Ambrosial Beauty Studio and what I specialize in is Elevated Makeup Artistry, Personalized Facial Treatments and Brow Enhancement.
I have a background in music, acting, teaching and some baking, among other things I got to experience along the way on my 30 years of life. I’ve always being drawn to the arts and makeup has always been an outlet for my creativity and self expression since I can remember. Always trying to think of colors and looks, and replicate what I’ve learned from known and established makeup artists on magazines and on the internet. It’s been a long developing journey of 15+ years. Although in all those years I never really considered it as a profession until recently, two years now, when I thought “hey, I love this and I’m really good at it. Why don’t I give it a try?” And so far has been amazing!
When it comes to skincare, I started really young to take care of my skin thanks to my mother. She gave me a 3-piece skincare set when I was around 12 years old. I did not know how to really use it even though it was a pretty basic routine: cleanser, toner, moisturizer. But, I learned the importance of self care. I also had a home economics teacher in middle school who talked once about applying body lotion daily and that stuck with me. Same as makeup, I kept wanting to learn more about it. And here we are now, sharing what I love with people who wants it as much!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been easy. You have to wake up everyday choosing your profession. I’ve juggled from job to job saving to invest into developing my skills and expand my knowledge, collaborating with other creatives to put the work out there without monetary compensation, putting tons of hours into paving my own way… and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. It’s a lot. But, at the end of it, I feel blessed. I’m grateful to be able to build my own opportunities, to keep growing and moving forward helping others as well.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in non-invasive skin care and elevated makeup artistry. I distinguish myself for emphasizing the importance of taking care of one’s skin and overall wellbeing. I believe we have the capacity to heal from within as we do from the outside, hence my holistic approach. I also think that “less is more”, so I never overdo my makeup application.
I have thought immensely about what sets me apart and for this I’ve had to gather people’s opinions about their experience with me and concluded that my own personal experience, the attention to detail and my ability to understand your situation and empathize with your struggles speaks more than any skill I could have learned. I also go the extra mile to learn new techniques on every aspect, learning from more established and experienced professionals such as Priscilla Ono (Celebrity MUA) with whom I was lucky to learn from at her makeup course.
I’m truly proud of helping others look and feel their best self by retaking their self esteem and boosting their confidence. That’s the most rewarding feeling I could ever experience!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
It is something you have to really consider. You definitely have to take calculated risks. Things not always go according to plan, that’s why it is called a risk. But, sometimes they do! You just have to be able to pivot and put your mind to work fast to move quickly when they don’t. I see it as a game. There has been times where I’m all for it and there has been others where I’ve felt stuck, unable to move forward. I think it’s all normal and part of the process. Like I said before, you got to remind yourself why are you doing this to keep on track. That’s my motor.
