Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Villamarin.
Hi Alicia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My business partner and I have traveled extensively to remote areas worldwide, providing Chinese Medicine services. We noticed the need for cost-effective healthcare and realized that training local people was more beneficial than one-time clinics. This led us to create a non-profit organization in 2014, using the “Barefoot Doctor Model” to teach healthcare skills. Over the past 11 years, we’ve trained students in rural areas of seven countries, creating communities of healers. Our effective training programs have gained a strong reputation, especially among indigenous populations. In 2025, we conducted five training missions in rural Mexico and Guatemala, with another planned for December. We have already booked the entire year of 2026 with two new groups of students.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
“Our first trip was the most challenging, as we navigated new tasks like fundraising, curriculum preparation, supply purchasing, volunteer recruitment, and coordination with our contacts in Nepal. Despite the hard work and excitement, we faced numerous obstacles, including delayed visas, car failures, and altitude sickness. However, it was all worthwhile. We continue our trainings, expecting the unexpected and adapting to different circumstances and practices in various countries.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a licensed Acupuncture Physician, a Chinese Medicine doctor. In my field I am known as a practitioner of Sound Healing, I also practice Clinical Hypnotherapy and Past Life Regression Therapy, I come from a scientific background though, I have a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology and my passion is to bridge both worlds, the world of energy and the world of science. What I am most proud of is of The Wu Project, the Non-profit organization that I co-founded and co-manage. This is my life’s commitment, to give people in forgotten rural areas a chance at a better health through education. Teaching is my calling, and through the trainings, The Wu Project is bringing real solutions.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am an open book!
