Hi Abby, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
sommnights™ began in New York back in November 2019. I had discovered my love of wine earlier in that year and after studying and becoming an introductory sommelier, I decided to turn my passion into a business. I hosted an at-home wine tasting with close friends and family to celebrate my recent certifications. After a fun afternoon of tasting food and wine, the idea of sommnights™ was born.
sommnights™ started from nothing and quickly became popular thanks to a local newspaper article, word of mouth, and Instagram. Over the last 5 years, sommnights™ has transformed into a popular bespoke wine-tasting experience that allows customers to enjoy and learn about wine in the comfort of their own homes. Today, sommnights™ tastings are offered in New York, NYC, New Jersey, Connecticut, Miami, and Chicago.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Luckily, the journey of turning my idea of sommnights™ into a business has been smooth and successful over the last five years.
I have made many close connections within the world of wine that have become supportive mentors in my journey. I come from a family of entrepreneurs so I have also been lucky enough to lean on them to understand the right steps to take to make my business a successful endeavor.
Wine is no easy career to pursue and the most challenging aspect is setting aside the time to study and advance my certifications when life gets busy!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In addition to studying all types of wine, I specialize in Italian Wine.
Over the last 2 years, I have focused my studies solely on learning all there is to know about Wines of Italy. I have studied with Italian Wine Scholar and the Vin Italy International Academy in Verona. I have visited the wine regions of Piemonte, Tuscany, and Sicily to further this line of study.
My passion is what sets me apart from others and I enjoy pursuing Italian wines as a way to honor my Italian heritage.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always chatty and social which I can confidently say I’m still like today. I loved telling stories and making people laugh.
My interests were more rooted in the arts than sports as I played piano for 15 years.
