Conversations with the Inspiring Wendy Regalado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Regalado.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since I was a child, I have always wanted to be an actress. I was always watching actresses and TV show presenters and trying to imitate them. Throughout that time, my mother and grandmother would encourage me to participate in plays at church; this was my start to working as an actress. The first time I had a script in my hands I had no idea how I was going to learn all of my lines, but I was so happy. The show was successful and I enjoyed every moment on stage. From then on, my life became a pursuit of being on that stage. I studied Broadcasting Journalism at the university thinking it would be a good path to getting on a stage, in front of cameras as a TV presenter, but the theater was my first love. After graduating, I had the opportunity to live a dream as I was able to act on my country’s biggest stage, in its most prominent theater. Little did I know, that it was just the beginning. Now, I am blessed to do what I love, never taking for granted the patience and discipline it took to get to this point and what it will take to keep living my dreams.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a little bit of both. Some points in my career have come about quite smoothly while others have been more difficult to navigate. Some of these difficult times could be considered to have been caused by obstacles, but my approach has been to keep moving forward and to persevere. “Am I getting a fair chance or any chance at all” is a question that you can drive yourself crazy with and can be very discouraging. I choose preparation and positivity.

What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I’m a professional actress, TV host/presenter, and model. I’ve been working for many years as an actress on different platforms: TV, theater and films. I’ve also done some work as a model and actress in commercials for various media platforms, including print, and music videos with artists such as DJ Khaled. I also currently do some work as a social media influencer for events and brands.

I’m best known for my work as “Lucia” on the Nickelodeon TV series “Grachi.” I’ve also worked on several soap operas (telenovelas) for the Hispanic market on Telemundo and Univision. I’ve worked on several short films and recently starred in “Jenni” which has been critically acclaimed and garnered several nominations and awards in film festivals around the world.

I’m currently in production with a few new film projects in the U.S. and in the Dominican Republic,

As an entrepreneur and content creator, apart of my acting career, I have my own show on social media called “Wellness by Wen” to talk about a healthy lifestyle and where I interview various professionals in all the wellness industry. I will often recommend places, products, exercises, etc. For Neomujer USA channel on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram the focus is on women, their empowerment, and providing information. Wellness by Wen is coming with new ideas and surprises for women in Miami that I will be publishing soon. You can find me on social media as @wendyregalado Twitter and Instagram and @wellnessbywen where you can see more about me from my posts and content.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
It is very important to have someone who can guide you, advise you, and encourage you when you are struggling. This does not all have to come from the same person, but having someone that you can trust and bounce ideas off of is very valuable. If you can find an acting coach, manager, or agent that can help you to define you as an artist, that is obviously a great benefit. But, I have also been lucky enough to make friends with extremely talented and veteran actors, actresses, directors, and producers that have mentored me in different ways. Some may not have even realized they were doing that for me. It has been a benefit in my case to not close myself off to the people I meet in this industry or even professionals outside of the industry. You never know where the opportunity to enhance yourself as an artist will come from.
