Conversations with the Inspiring Prissy Torres

Today we’d like to introduce you to Prissy Torres.

Prissy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The Fashion Muse began in early 2014 and turning 4 in May. I began my blog as just a hobby and an outlet for myself to express my thoughts on trends, beauty, and lifestyle. Little did I know this hobby of mine would turn into a brand, and this brand would no longer only be my outlet -but an outlet for many different people to turn to.

After about 2 and a half years of being consistent, I began to see a lot of flourishments. Brands began to reach out more, people started knowing my brand and the girl behind the brand (not only locally), and most importantly The Fashion Muse began to get monetized.

I came from a family where being creative, and following your true passions were always encouraged (and still is to this day). Both of my parents are professionals and one even has two degrees. So, to have a kid who made a brand out of a hobby – a hobby out of social media and gets paid for it, was somewhat of an adjustment to them. Even though they had my full 100% support always – at the time the idea of making a career out of social media was just blossoming into this society, but it was not fully understood.

As of just last year, The Fashion Muse became a full corp by the name of My Musings. This was not only a big step for me, but it was an accomplishment. I never thought in a million years I would be a business owner, nonetheless out of something that was just a hobby for me.

Up to right now, I have traveled, experienced, met a ton of new people, worked with amazing companies and brands, and have even covered red carpet events like The American Music Awards and Disney’s Beauty & The Beast Movie premier. My main goal was (and still is) to inspire others through my love and talent in everything fashion, beauty and lifestyle meanwhile giving my followers and readers a glimpse into my everyday life.

As for the end of last year, I finally launched the second half of my platform – my YouTube channel! Which includes my beauty portions and vlogging.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t necessarily believe anything in life is easy or given. Many people have a misinterpretation on this industry – I often get told how it’s not that hard to pose pretty for pictures or receive “free” items weekly, but it’s honestly a lot more than that.

Essentially, I am my own boss, PR, organizer, event planner, accountant, and responsible for the needs of many different brands. With that said, there’s a lot of roles you have to take on as a blogger. At the start, I was working for free the majority of the time. No one knows who you are, and you have zero experience with brands or companies, so of course – they’re not willing to pay. I believe anyone who is getting into this, cannot get into this whole industry thinking they are going to make a salary out of this within a years time – it’s very difficult!

But for me, that was the driving force. I wanted to see myself eventually making money out of this, and it was that motivation that continued to push me forward – even if that meant working for free. You gotta sacrifice! Within the almost 4 years I have been doing this, it has made me grow up in so many different ways. I do see a lot more maturity in my choices and a lot more confidence in me. I’ve had to build a thick skin, and I think anyone in the social media industry could attest to that.

What should we know about The Fashion Muse? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My work is mainly based on fashion and beauty, but I do occasionally share lifestyle postings.

As an influencer/blogger, I have made it a point to embrace my story – being a Latina. It’s what sets me apart, especially in times like these that we currently live in. My parents were immigrants to this country. I’m proud to say I am Cuban American.

I want to break barriers and achieve goals as a Latina woman.

I have had a lot of “proud” moments so far in this career. But my top favorite would have to be, being named the top fashion blogger & content creator in So Flo, Getting to work with Disney & become one of their influencers, working with Telemundo on campaigns, and most recently – getting to work closely along Facebook & Instagram as one of their content creators.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I truly believe this is a woman’s time! We are living in such a great time where we no longer have to stay quiet, where people are actually listening to our opinions, and where the woman can now make more than a working man.

So, yes! There is a TON of amazing opportunity for women… It’s time to stand up for ourselves, and for our kind.
