Conversations with the Inspiring Dr. Cacinda Maloney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Cacinda Maloney.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am an experienced luxury travel writer, photographer and digital media influencer who shares her love of travel thru her writings about adventure, cultural and smart luxury experiences. I stepped out of my comfort zone years ago by traveling every six weeks of my life for over 25 years. At the time, I was a physician and owned my own clinic. I basically started a website, PointsandTravel, about my travel experiences and my life as a traveler just expanded from there. I now travel more than every six weeks. I traveled to 47 countries in 2016 and to 22 countries in 2017. I love transformation travel that is rich in cultural experiences.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course, it has been a struggle! Travel blogging and blogs barely existed when I started. I was on the later end of the beginning of travel blogs and blogging. I only started the website because I wanted to travel more and not really to change careers, but it grew so fast and I had so many offers for work that I finally decided to make a go of it. Advice for the newcomers? Learn SEO from the beginning. I learned the hard way. You can write all day long and no one can read your work. The key is getting readers to read your work. That is where you can start a career out of it.

What should we know about PointsandTravel? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As mentioned before, I am an experienced luxury travel writer, blogger, photographer and digital media influencer who shares her love of travel thru her writings about adventure, cultural, and smart luxury experiences. I didn’t start out that way! Originally, I was just a Mom traveler who booked all the travel of our household family of four. I was tracking all those orphan miles that we had accumulated and started to read blogs about collecting miles and points. That is when I stumbled upon points blogs and decided to start my own. However, after a few months of writing about points, I decided I prefer to write about TRAVEL! And so, I quickly made the switch to my kind of travel: adventure (we are a scuba diving and ski family), culture and smart luxury travel. I call it: “Adventures by day and smart luxury at night!” Basically, I take individual or press trips around the world on a semi-weekly basis and write about my experiences. I am most proud of my brand in that it started from nothing and created a second career for me. I am different because I already was an experienced traveler long before I started the blog. I knew what type and style of travel I preferred.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
