Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Lopez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I opened CLD in 2018. I never went to school for interior design and didn’t exactly consider myself the creative type. But My love for interiors quickly grew after renovating my own home. I could see things other people couldn’t. After renovating my home, friends and family wanted me to help them renovate their own spaces. I worked on three big projects to build my portfolio and CLD was born. I receive clients from Instagram and word of mouth. I am mainly a residential designer but my business has expanded into commercial spaces as well. I’m so passionate about making spaces beautiful and love seeing my clients reactions.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m not sure any business is ever a smooth road. There are so many lessons to learn along the way. The design world has so many different aspects to it, that every project I work on I learn something new. You are working with peoples money and so the pressure to execute exactly what they are looking for is high. I have run into a few contractors that have left me high and dry or did incorrect work, and as the responsibility falls onto me, I have to make it right which sometimes can cost a lot of money. But my main goal is to provide my clients with the very best service where they can trust me as their designer.
Please tell us more about your brand, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am the owner of an interior design company, Christina Lauren Designs, that focuses on residential and commercial spaces. I’m known for envisioning spaces and my approachable design style. As a brand, I am most proud of the client building relationships I have gained throughout the years. I feel like my approach and design aesthetics sets me apart from other local designers.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Since graduating from college, I have been a business owner. I feel like many of the challenges and opportunities women face are more in the corporate world and I have not really ever had to experience that. I have always been an entrepreneur and love being my own boss. Don’t get me wrong, it comes with a lot like working on vacation, never being able to clock out, responsible for people’s paychecks, etc. Although the world of interior design is dominantly made up of women designers, some challenges are dealing with so many different trades and people that it can be very intimidating. I believe women are well-positioned for all roles. So long as there is passion and drive behind what woman is doing, it’s evident women can conquer anything.
