Community Highlights: Meet Wendy Michelle Loyola of WM BEAUTY LAB – STUDIO & ACADEMY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Michelle Loyola

Hi Wendy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I came to the U.S. with my family when I was just eight years old. We landed in Miami with nothing but a few bags and the little savings my mom had managed to pull together. Our first home was a garage with no windows, and that’s where we made our start. I was young, but I understood quickly that we didn’t have much. And while we were far from comfortable, we had each other and a shared dream of building a better life. That was enough to keep us going. Growing up, I worked hard in school and dreamed of a future, even though I was undocumented and unsure if I’d ever get a real chance to build anything here. Then, when DACA was introduced, I could finally work legally. It wasn’t full freedom, but it was my first big step. With that opportunity, I felt something shift in me—I knew I wanted to create something meaningful for myself and others.

My passion for beauty became my focus. I wanted to help other women feel beautiful and confident because I knew how powerful that feeling could be. By age 27, I was working four jobs, saving every dollar, and focusing on my goal: to buy my own property and start a business that could empower women. I sacrificed a lot during that time. While others went out or took time for themselves, I was hustling, building toward a dream that kept me going even on the hardest days. But this journey wasn’t just about my career. I also made the decision to leave the religious community I grew up in, which meant losing my family and friends. I was on my own, with nowhere to go and no one to support me. My parents disowned me, and I found myself struggling with depression, feeling abandoned and alone. But in that darkness, I found a new drive. I promised myself I’d work hard enough to never depend on anyone else for stability. In the middle of all this, I also became the legal guardian of my younger sister. Our parents rejected her for her identity, and I knew I had to step in. I became her support system at a time when I was barely getting by myself. My brother stood by me, and together, we became a family that chose to lift each other up. My siblings are my strength, and they remind me every day why I work so hard. I knew I had to make a change, so I created a vision board—a real plan for my future. My corporate job allowed me to save, but my real passion was beauty.

I took my makeup kit everywhere, going from work to clients, then taking weekend gigs for weddings and freelance opportunities. My life became my work, and my work became my purpose. Even on days when I didn’t want to get out of bed, my clients and my vision pulled me forward. I poured myself into training, specializing in permanent makeup for brows and lips, and it changed everything. I loved helping women, especially those dealing with hair loss from cancer or alopecia, feel beautiful and whole. Eventually, I had enough clients to take a big leap of faith. I left my corporate job, rented a chair in a salon, and got to work on my own terms. Within a year, I had built up my client base enough to open my own studio, WM Beauty Lab. From there, my dreams continued to grow. I turned that studio into an academy, where I could help women build their own paths to financial independence. Today, at 31, I look at everything I’ve built, and it’s surreal. I now own three investment properties with nine rental units, a beauty studio, and an academy that trains and empowers other women. I have created a life that, at one time, felt impossible. My journey wasn’t easy, but every challenge prepared me for where I am now.

My story is for every woman who feels she’s been knocked down too many times. If you want something deeply enough, you can make it happen. The struggle is real, but so is the strength we have inside. I truly believe that every woman deserves to be financially independent and to live life on her own terms. I want my story to show other women that no matter where you start or how hard the journey is, you have the power to create a life you’re proud of.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been easy, and I’m okay with that. It’s shaped me into who I am today. Leaving my religious community was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I lost my family and support, and I fell into a dark place mentally. But in those moments of struggle, I found my “why.” I promised myself I’d never feel helpless or unsupported again. I also faced financial hardship, with no safety net to fall back on. I worked multiple jobs, saved every dollar, and kept pushing forward. My siblings were my motivation. I became the guardian of my younger sister, and together we built our own family. They reminded me daily of why I was working so hard—to give them the stability and safety they deserved. To every woman facing tough times—whether it’s mental health challenges, financial struggles, or family difficulties—know that you’re not alone. Keep your vision clear, remember why you started, and don’t give up. Every setback is part of the journey, leading you to something better. Keep going, because everything will fall into place if you keep fighting for what you want. You’ve got this.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My work is my life’s passion—it’s what keeps me grounded and connected, even on the hardest days. When I’m with my clients, every worry fades, and everything just falls into place. I specialize in inkless stretch mark rejuvenation, scar camouflage, and permanent makeup for brows and lips, including brow microshading and lip blush. These services are powerful tools to help transform a woman’s confidence, allowing her to feel empowered and beautiful in her skin.

This work goes beyond beauty; it’s about transformation on every level. I’ve had clients from all walks of life, including cancer patients, women with alopecia, and people with scars from surgeries who want to reclaim their bodies. I’ve also had young women with stretch marks who’ve struggled with self-acceptance for years, finally ready to embrace who they are and take that first step by coming to see me. It’s an honor to be trusted with their vulnerabilities and to help them feel whole again.

My husband always jokes, “How do you get everyone to open up to you?” But I truly believe I’m meeting the women I’m meant to meet. Each client brings something meaningful to our time together, and my goal is to make each woman feel beautiful, seen, and empowered by the end of our session.

I know I’m not for everyone, and that’s exactly how I want it. My work attracts people who are open to change, who want to feel beautiful from within, and who are ready to embrace a new level of confidence. For me, this isn’t just a career—it’s my purpose. It’s about creating moments that lift others, instilling confidence and peace in every woman who walks through my door, and building a life that’s as impactful as it is beautiful.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is mental health, family, and financial independence. I say this because I’ve been through struggles that taught me these are the real foundations of a fulfilled life. There is no success or business that’s worth more than peace of mind. As women, we often carry so much—our dreams, our responsibilities, our past traumas. But none of it matters if you’re not okay within. Mental health has to come first; it’s the anchor that keeps everything else in place. I know what it’s like to feel like you have no one, to go through dark days, and to still push through. I want every woman reading this to remember that you’re stronger than you think.

Surround yourself with people who lift you up and fuel your spirit. Sometimes, family is the people you choose, the ones who see your light even when you can’t. I know I wouldn’t be here without the love I found in my siblings, my chosen family, and the beautiful clients who trusted me with their stories and struggles. Betting on yourself is also huge for me. We all have dreams, but fear holds so many of us back. You have to take that chance on yourself—start that business, sign up for that course, invest in skills that bring you joy.

Therapy is another part of this journey; it’s not just for people who feel broken. Therapy lets you grow and build a relationship with yourself that’s rooted in understanding and compassion. Healing and self-discovery are crucial steps that make you even stronger for whatever life throws your way. Finally, to any woman reading this who dreams of building something, whether it’s a business, a family, or a new chapter in life, I’m here for you. I believe in sharing what I’ve learned because I know how lonely and overwhelming it can feel to start from nothing. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Reach out to me, find the people who inspire you, and know that your dreams are absolutely possible. You are worthy of a life that fills you with pride and joy, and I’m here to cheer you on every step of the way
