Hi Tammy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey as an entrepreneur is quite interesting, it all started with my first time ever; lash appointment! Funny right! I was fascinated by how a well-done set of lashes could transform a person’s look and boost their confidence., Imagine I could make someone else feel the same way I did when I first got my lashes done. Plus when I saw what I paid my lash artist at the time in the span of 2 hours it really made me rethink my whole career lol. Like “I can make this type of money in 2 hours” oh yeah sign me up! From then my interest in lash extensions took off. I enrolled in a lash course; multiple actually, and thought to myself I could definitely do this as a part time hustle aside from my full-time job. Back story, at the time before and during doing lashes, I was working in the ER while trying to obtain my BSN online during COVID all while practicing and doing lash extensions from the comfort of my home. If i’m being honest nursing was a dream of mine but the beauty industry was my passion. Knowing I could be there for others by making them look and feel good just felt so good to me. Instead of nursing patients back to health I nurse clients into beauty and with this I could follow up with my clients unlike my patients in the ER. So how it really started, lets say I have to thank COVID for pushing me to realize I was only trying to please society with my RN title instead of truly following my dreams which was becoming an entrepreneur. I knew I wanted to run my own business and not take orders from anyone else. COVID was the game changer, I left my full-time job and took the leap of faith to open my first suite; that felt so good! With the support of my amazing mother and phenomenal husband they allowed me to fulfill my dream and be there for me every step of the way. Now the journey hasn’t been easy I am a mother to 3 girls all while my husband is away weeks at a time because he’s a truck driver, so in other words I operate as a Married “single” woman LOL EMPHASIS ON THE MARRIED PART LOL, but I juggle a lot, work, home, business, marriage, etc. But again without my support system I wouldn’t be where I am today. Fast forward to today after 8 years of entrepreneurship I own my own salon here in west palm beach FL, I went back to school and obtained my esthetician license now being able to provide more aesthetic services, I have tested and created my own lash product line , and most of all I have become a educator providing lash certification trainings to beauty professionals around the world and I love it here. The future is bright for Aestique Aesthetics and the world isn’t ready for whats to come. It is God’s grace that has brought me thus far and for that I’m forever grateful.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Whew! a smooth road?! Unfortunately no it hasn’t; but what success story is right? I have to say the hardest struggles of being an entrepreneur is the financial uncertainty, finding a work-life balance, competition, motivation, perfectionism, failure, I could honestly go on and on. Entrepreneurship is not for the weak, I would repeat that a million times to anybody thinking its easy, we only make it look easy but deep down we really want to go back to a 9 to 5 lol. Jokes aside entrepreneurship is rewarding but it can tear you down from the inside out.
