Community Highlights: Meet Summer Keeney of Buzz Bee Social Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Keeney.

Summer Keeney

Hi Summer, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My journey to where I am today with Buzz Bee Social Media has been quite the ride, filled with lots of learning and hard work. The idea of starting a business began back in college at Marshall University where I studied Business Management and Marketing. I’ve always enjoyed being creative, so marketing, specifically content creation, felt like a good fit.

After college, I landed a job at the United States Polo Association, which was fantastic for honing my skills in a professional setting. But after a while, I started feeling the itch to do something that was all mine, something that allowed me more creative freedom and the chance to work on a variety of projects. That’s when the idea of starting my own digital marketing firm began to take shape.

I didn’t jump in blindly, though. I talked to my family and friends, did my research, and finally got the push I needed from the team at Gordo Web Design. They helped me set everything up, from my business structure to my website. Launching Buzz Bee was both thrilling and terrifying. Starting with just one client, I poured my heart into the work, focusing on building strong relationships and delivering results.

Fast forward to today, and here we are! A lot of our growth has come from word of mouth as well as many, many hours spent creating content. I think what’s helped us stand out is our commitment to understanding each client’s unique story and goals, and then tailoring our strategies to fit. It’s not just about posts and promotions; it’s about making real connections through storytelling and engagement.

So, that’s my story! It’s been a journey of continuous learning, adapting, and above all, staying true to my creative vision.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road all the way! In the beginning, I grappled with imposter syndrome pretty hard. There were days I questioned my decision, wondering if I was really cut out for this. At the same time, setting up efficient processes and workflows was a huge challenge. It was all about trial and error, figuring out what works best for the business and the team.

Over time, I managed to overcome these hurdles by seeking advice from other entrepreneurs and continuously refining our methods. But the challenges didn’t just stop there. Running a business is a continuous journey of learning and adapting. I’ve had to wear many hats—designer, account manager, bookkeeper, you name it. And dedicating so many hours to make sure everything runs smoothly can be exhausting.

Plus, the digital marketing landscape is always changing. Staying on top of the latest trends, technologies, and algorithms means you can never really sit back and relax. You’ve always got to be on your toes, ready to adapt your strategies. It’s demanding but also exciting because it pushes me to keep learning and growing.

So, no, it hasn’t been smooth, but every struggle has been a stepping stone to learning something new and making Buzz Bee Social Media stronger and more resilient.

We’ve been impressed with Buzz Bee Social Media, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Buzz Bee Social Media is all about bringing a personal touch to the digital marketing world. We’re a full-service social media company based out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, specializing in crafting organic, high-impact social media strategies. What we do goes beyond just posting on social platforms; we focus on creating meaningful engagement through top-notch graphic design, compelling copywriting, and effective email marketing campaigns.

What sets us apart is our commitment to truly understanding and celebrating the uniqueness of each client. We don’t do cookie-cutter solutions here. Instead, we dive deep into the specifics of each business’s industry, audience, and aspirations to tailor our strategies precisely. This approach allows us to create highly personalized, effective campaigns that resonate with the target audience and drive real results.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust and loyalty we’ve built with our clients. Many of our new projects come from referrals, which speaks volumes about the quality of our work and the relationships we foster. This trust is the backbone of our reputation and something we continuously strive to strengthen.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about our city is the incredible food scene, the vibrant energy, and the opportunities it has provided me as a business owner. There’s a dynamic mix of cultures here that makes dining out an adventure, from authentic street food to high-end gourmet experiences.

The city pulses with a unique energy that’s both inspiring and motivating, which has been a huge boost for growing my business. The community here is also supportive of entrepreneurs, offering networks and resources that have been invaluable.

On the flip side, there are aspects of the city that can be challenging. Traffic is a major concern—it can be really hectic, especially during rush hours, making it time-consuming to get around. Also, the rapid commercial development, while it brings growth, has led to a significant loss of natural space. It’s tough to see areas that were once green and serene turned into yet another commercial complex.
