Today we’d like to introduce you to Shatawn Reid.
Hi Shatawn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur. I wanted to own a business that would help others. I wanted to do work that wouldn’t feel like work to me. This is the reason why, when I received my Master’s in Business Administration, I also obtained a concentration in Entrepreneurship. My photography business started before I actually had a business. I had a good friend who was a singer. She was a Gospel Music singer, and I would go to her engagements and record them on my cellphone. After recording the performance, I would edit it to make it look more “cinematic” and send it to her. She suggested that I should do photography/videography because I did a good job at it. So, in 2017, I purchased a Nikon D5600 with my taxes, and the rest is history. When it comes to book publishing, I published a book through Amazon; however, I didn’t really make money with it. I started researching ways to receive your royalties in full for your published books, and it was stated that you would need to create your own publishing company to receive your royalties. So I did just that. Once I published my first book under my company name, God placed it on my heart to help others who want to publish their material to get their royalties as well. That is what I have been doing ever since. The notary company began with me just wanting to be a notary to make extra money. However, when I realized that there was so much more that could be done as a notary and understood what a loan signing agent entails, I decided to dive deeper and make it another business venture.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to being a multi-entrepreneur has not been easy. The biggest struggle of being an entrepreneur in general is getting a consistent clientele. Of course, to get a consistent clientele, you must market yourself so that you stand out among the others in your same field. Social Media is a major vehicle, but knowing the ins and outs of promoting on social media is still something that I am learning. I am a firm believer that word of mouth is the best form of advertisement, but since we live in the age of social media and technology, that has to always be taken into consideration.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
SoulReach Studios is a creative photography and videography company dedicated to capturing authentic moments and telling compelling visual stories. Founded in 2017, SoulReach Studios specializes in portrait photography, engagement sessions, couples photography, family portraits, graduation photography, branding photography, and real estate photography.
On the videography side, SoulReach Studios produces promotional videos, music videos, brand stories, documentaries, podcast content, real estate videos, short films, and feature films that help individuals and businesses connect with their audiences through powerful visual storytelling.
Thus far, the biggest project that SoulReach Studios has undertaken has been the production of the documentary for the Dade County Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., called Breaking Barriers: Building Bonds, The Dade County Alumnae Chapter Story. It premiered on January 10th, 2026, during their 45th Anniversary celebration. This project was so rewarding because it exemplified what SoulReach Studios stands for, which is making the customers’ vision come to the light.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
The one thing that I believe would surprise most people, when it comes to my photography/videography business, is that I don’t have any prior training in any of it. I didn’t go to school to learn any of the skills that I have for photography or videography; it is solely a God-given gift. Yes, I have done my research on different concepts and methods, but my beginnings started as a talent that I discovered out of the blue.
