Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Alexander-Oscar.
Hi Sharon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I feel like I was called to entrepreneurship to serve a purpose. I worked in Accounting and Finance for 20-plus years before leaving the workforce and starting my own business. It’s been a challenge at times but being able to assist other small business owners in positioning themselves for prosperity has become somewhat of a ministry for me.
Not only do I offer a paid service in finance, but I also give free consultations and masterclasses on financial literacy. This is where I feel the most fulfilled. I currently own two businesses. I own an Accounting Firm and a Construction company I recently started. Being an African American Female in two male-dominated industries doesn’t come without its challenges.
It was not easy to be appreciated for my expertise and my knowledge…. let’s just put it that way Lol! I’ve had to demand respect and at times walk away from opportunities where I felt I was looked at as just a pretty face. However, I continue to persevere because I have an example to set for my children and other up-and-coming female and minority entrepreneurs.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth. One of the struggles I face is convincing other small minority business owners that they need my service from the conception of their business. Most minorities feel that if they are not generating revenue they don’t need an Accountant. That is false. Expenses are transactions too and all transactions need to be accurately recorded.
I get the calls only when they can’t get funded or are being audited for other reasons. At this point, they are so unorganized and usually walk away leaving money on the table or owing. It’s disheartening. This is the reason why I offer free financial literacy masterclasses.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
SA Financials Inc is an Accounting and Taxation Firm in South Florida. We service not only our community but the entire United States and US Territories. Our services range from business incorporation to bookkeeping and funding assistance all the way to tax preparation. We pride ourselves in providing “audit-ready” bookkeeping and accounting services and that sets us apart from our competitors.
We offer free 15-minute consultations on any of our various financial services and free coaching for any paid training we provide. We offer full-service back office support so that our clients can focus on doing what they do best, and that’s running their business.
Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice to any business owner is to network, connect and ask for help. There is no shame in asking for assistance or information that you don’t have from someone who does. It’s how we grow and learn. I remind myself all the time that there is someone out there that is doing it better, longer, and smarter. Then I connect with those people and gain information that allows me to become elevated in my business and my services.
