Today we’d like to introduce you to RJ Durrant.
Hi RJ, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name Raymond Durrant, affectionately known by my stage name “RJ Durrant,” I’m a singer, songwriter, and performer whose journey in music began and is deeply rooted in the church. From an early age, I knew that my gift was meant to reach far beyond the four walls of my local community. As a child, I often declared that one day I would be famous and that the world would know my name. That early spark of faith and determination has carried me through a remarkable musical journey.
My voice is both powerful and soulful, shaped by gospel foundations and infused with my own unique artistry. Over the years, my talent has opened doors on some big stages. I have auditioned for highly respected platforms such as American Idol and Sunday’s Best, where I boldly showcased my gift. My relentless pursuit of excellence has also earned me several nominations and accolades, including Best Vocalist of the Year and Best Male Artist of the Year – recognition that speaks to both my artistry and the impact of my music.
Though the road has not always been easy, I have never “thrown in the towel.” Instead, every challenge has fueled my determination to keep pressing forward. Today, I stand as an artist on the rise—rooted in my faith, sharpened by experience, and driven by the belief that my voice will continue to make a difference in the world. With every note, I will not only tell my story but also invite others to believe in the power of their own.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many artists, I’ve faced a lot of challenges along the way. There were seasons where doors seemed to close, where opportunities didn’t pan out the way I hoped, and times when I had to question if I was really on the right path. Financial struggles, self-doubt, and even the pressure of constantly having to prove myself were all real parts of my journey.
But through it all, I never let those struggles stop me. Instead, they shaped me, refined my character, and made me stronger as an artist and as a person. Every setback has prepared me for a greater comeback, and those tough moments have fueled my determination to keep pushing, keep creating, and keep believing in the vision I had as a child.

ReFresh was formed in 2017 after a successful collaboration with a group of gifted singers for a major gospel concert. Our chemistry was undeniable, and by 2019 the group had a name that captured their spirit—ReFresh. Today, RJ Durrant & ReFresh continue to inspire audiences with powerful & anointed vocals, harmony, and a message that uplifts hearts everywhere we go.
In 2023, X-treme BGV’s was born as part of my vision, to provide artists in Florida with top-quality background vocalists for live shows and studio sessions. From small ensembles to full groups, I’ve been able to supply exactly what artists need, making X-treme BGV’s a trusted name in the industry. Now, I have expanded my services to include vocal training, helping students prepare for auditions and gain entry into schools, while also equipping the next generation of singers with the skills to succeed.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is, first and foremost, music. The great Bob Marley once said, “One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain,” and that couldn’t be more true for me. Music has always been my safe place, my healer, and my way of connecting with people on a deeper level.
The second thing that makes me truly happy is my supporters and my family. Their love, encouragement, and belief in me keep me grounded and motivated. Knowing that I have people who genuinely stand by me gives me the strength to keep pushing and sharing my gift with the world.
