Community Highlights: Meet Nevin Davis of Caribbean Bike Life

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nevin Davis.

Hi Nevin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name Nevin Davis, more widely known as Realistz. I was born in the Caribbean on the small wonderful and mountainous island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. I became fascinated by motorcycles at a very tender age, around 4 or 5 years old. My dad got me my first bicycle at the age of 6, I can remember clearly always wanting to ride it faster, especially peddling or pushing up the many surrounding hills. From that moment started saving my lunch and break money, I wanted a motorcycle, before a car, despite they not being as popular at that time. I moved to the United States of America at 17, by that time after many years of saving coupled with my first job, had saved enough money to purchase my first motorcycle, a 2000 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-7R. Finally, got me ‘a big Ninja bike’ as often referred to by  Jamaican dancehall artists at the time.

At the age of 18, I started traveling back to St. Vincent for the annual bike week meet. Being a young stunt rider, majority of the riders gravitated toward me and a few others, given no one on the island that that time was performing such stunt acts. Immediately, I saw my calling in life, to bring people together, both young and old, under a common interest, motorcycles. Bob Marley, my favorite artist, and I share the same mindset towards life, a strong and never ending believe in love and unity. Bob brought people together through his talent and passion of music and given that I can’t sing to save my own life I decided to spread the similar message of love and unity through my passion, which birthed Caribbean Bike Life or 28CBL for short. The number 28 is our team number which represents the 28 Caribbean countries.

One hot summer day in NYC I ran into a childhood friend Zoey, on the train in Brooklyn. Zoey was always creative, and so I asked him to create a logo for Caribbean Bike Life “CBL” to print on some T-shirts to wear for my next bike week trip to St Vincent. To my surprise, numerous persons start inquiring as to what was the CBL T-Shirt about and where can they get one to purchase. I had to continuously explain that CBL is not a motorcycle club, a crew or a gang, rather it is a “Movement”, created for as a platform to unite people around the globe through fabrics such as T-Shirts, Hoodies, Hats, swimsuits, gloves, keychains, etc.

On that bike week trip, I literally gave away all my CBL t-shirts. I can vividly remember my cousin known as Bakes turning to me and stating “Cuz you can’t keep giving away the shirts, it’s time to start selling,” and from that very statement birthed the brand Caribbean Bike Life.

We more refer to the brand as the unspoken language rather than a clothing brand. The fabric merely serves as a public acknowledgement and statement of a common understanding of the bond and appreciation for a wide-reaching lifestyle centered around motorcycles. We are based in New York / Miami, Annually we travel from state to state, country to country and island to island promoting this 1Life 1Love 1Movement which is the motto we stand by.

To summarize this movement in one sentence – CBL is not a hobby, it is a lifestyle…… a dope lifestyle.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our greatest obstacle is getting people to understand that CBL is not just a motorcycle brand but a movement beyond bike life. A movement whose main focus is love and unity among ever race, age and gender. In traveling are often mistaken for a motorcycle club, we do not complete with local clubs, we endorse and promote whenever possible.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

How do you think about luck?
