Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Lafrance.
Laura Lafrance, born in Delmas, Port-au-Prince, in Haiti on December 12, 1989, migrated to the USA at the age of 16. Per her parent’s expectations, she enrolled in a technical nursing school right after graduating high school, received a Licensed Practical Nurse certificate and successfully passed the State Board Exam (NCLEX). Eight months later, her career in the nursing field started. However, deep down, something was missing. While working a full-time schedule at night in a rehab center, she decided to follow her long-time passion and enrolled in a fashion program at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
Four years later, she received a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design and Apparel. When asked about her career pitch, Laura Lafrance describes it as being “a problem-solving tool using her skills, knowledge, and design mediums to make a difference in this world.” Laura Lafrance speaks four languages, and that ability, among other ones, has made it possible for her to become a senior designer for a local boutique in Boca Raton and travel worldwide with a uniform company in the hospital industry. Laura Lafrance holds a Master in Design Media Management from the Miami International University of Art and Design. She is also a full-time teacher in a high school in Kendall, owns a private Made-to-Measure brand, and a creative magazine that promotes local artists and entrepreneurs. When she is not on a computer blogging away, you can find her with friends and family, sipping on either tea or a glass of wine or scouting for other emerging artists in her area. A great personality to keep a great company! Follow her social media pages for more creative contents. IG @miss_lafrance_ Pinterest @lauralafrance.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not! I have had to re-group many time. Especially as a woman and minority entrepreneur. I have had to deal with not-so-pleasant individuals and receive many “no’s” in my path. Ultimately, I see the positive side of every close door as a re-calculation of route. Where there’s a will, there is always a way. My perseverance speaks for itself. I am known to never give up, and believe it or not, that inner strength is what motivate other women like me to keep pushing the barriers to make a difference for themselves.
