Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Jones.
A believer in servant leadership, Attorney Joshua R. Jones’ passion and dedication to the practice of law, stems from a desire to represent and educate people, particularly those from under-represented communities. In 2014, he opened his own practice, Josh Jones Law, P.A., the Florida Personal Injury Firm.
Josh understands the importance of service and empathy when handling clients. After working with so many seriously injured individuals and the loved ones of those who have died, it became clear to him that many people do not know what to do in the face of a family crisis. For this reason, Josh has made it an essential part of his practice to protect the legacy of families and help them on their path to generational wealth.
On both a personal and professional level, he values the creation and protection of generation wealth, which includes more than money. He also seeks justice for those who cannot represent themselves in order to hold large corporations and insurance companies accountable. His practice areas include Wrongful Death, Personal Injury, Car & Truck Accidents, Nursing Home Negligence, and Negligent Security. Josh earned his Juris Doctorate from New York City’s St. John’s University School of Law and is also a proud graduate of Clark Atlanta University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in History.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of my favorite quotes is by the abolitionist Frederick Douglass, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” While I don’t believe you always have to struggle, I do believe that anything worthwhile is worth working hard for. I chose to be a part of a profession that is incredibly not diverse. And I chose a practice area (personal injury) that is extremely competitive. I fight hard everyday for my clients because there cases are important to me. I also have a greater desire to be an example for my community that black attorneys are equally capable of handling important cases.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the attorney you call if you’ve been injured in a slip and fall. Growing up in Miami, I didn’t know a whole lot of attorneys and the ones that I saw were mostly old white dudes. As I began to learn more about civil rights and history in general, I learned and saw that way back during segregation; the few black attorneys were pivotal in helping black people to earn freedoms that we, unfortunately, are still fighting for. Unfortunately, the number of black attorneys has not significantly grown but I am dedicated and committed to doing my part to create a pipeline for the next generation to have it easier to flourish than it was for me and my colleagues as young attorneys.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Obviously, God deserves all of the credit. My parents were also the biggest influences that I had growing up. My dad, with limited education, went on to become a successful entrepreneur and my mom is one of the brainiest people I know showered me with the support to do whatever it was that I wanted to do in life and allowed me to be inquisitive. Growing up, I also read a lot of biographies and the subjects in the books all inspired me.
