Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Nicolas.
Jonathan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story begins the summer before college. I was unsure about my chances to play collegiate football as I was not highly recruited, but had high hopes for several colleges I had visited for football camps to display my abilities. In the meantime, I got a summer job and it was as a personal trainer for Ballys Total Fitness.
That was my first taste of being someone people depended on to help reach both physical and mental goals regarding their health and wellness. I ended up receiving a call to play at the University of Idaho and quickly dropped it to pursue my dreams of football. Fast forward a few years and I ended up with a memorable college career and an education in exercise science in pursuit of a career as a physical therapist.
After college, I worked for several chain gyms like LA Fitness & Golds Gym while getting ready for a master’s program. Fitness was something that came easy to me so I saw it as the best way to help fund my career pursuit. I also realized, after a few failed desk job positions, that working in an office setting was something that I just couldn’t see myself doing long-term.
In 2015 I began interning under several physical therapists out of the District of Columbia and quickly realized that working as a physical therapist, although rewarding, had many setbacks. I wanted the freedom to be able to create unique programs that catered to what each patient/ person needed because sometimes the basic exercise is just not enough.
I dropped that pursuit altogether and began Fresh Fitness in 2017. I began working with special populations while in the greater DMV area as an independent contractor for several home health agencies and also trained other private clients wherever I could. I incorporated stretch therapy with table-assisted stretches in 2019. I incorporated stretch therapy into my fitness programs because I understood the importance of mobility and flexibility in collaboration with fitness for both athletes and the everyday person.
When the covid-19 quarantine hit in 2020 I moved back to Miami, FL and, like many others, I was lost about the direction of my newly formed company. Fitness, as always, was what I leaned on and I began streaming on Instagram and training virtually. The feedback was overwhelming and I was still able to create a safe and challenging environment for those who became a part of the Fresh Fitness community.
Fast forward to today, I have helped dozens of individuals meet and exceed their goals. I always say that we are all looking for the fountain of youth, a way to stay young forever, but the answer is simple. Independence as we get older; The strength & ability to move how we want as we get older. To rise out of bed and not feel aches and pains, but rather energy and enthusiasm to accomplish more with the time we have.
It’s what I believe and what I strive to deposit into every person who allows me to invest in them my knowledge and expertise in fitness. To build strength, improve mobility and promote longevity of health and wellness; that’s Fresh Fitness. And as always “let’s be great!”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The battles of entrepreneurship are never a smooth road. I’ve had struggles with valuing myself as a person and business owner. I’ve battled the economic hardships and financial drawbacks of having a startup. I began my business with quite literally a dollar and a dream. I’ve struggled with where to provide my service, whether at home in Miami or in the greater DMV area which became my second home.
I can’t say that I’ve had clear mentorship in putting everything together, but I’ve found encouragement in different situations and experiences. When clients message me privately about the results they see or a referral is passed to me because the quality speaks for itself; those are the bridges that help me over the obstacles. And I know there are many more obstacles to come, but there are no losses, only lessons, there is no failure only fortuity.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Fresh Fitness?
