Community Highlights: Meet Jodie Booras of Kaiona Communications

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodie Booras.

Hi Jodie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story began in college, where I majored in Journalism and Public Relations and wrote for the university newspaper. Realizing I wanted more strategic and tactical experience beyond writing, I decided to pursue a career in public relations.

My first few jobs out of college were more sales and marketing-focused, but the moment I got the opportunity to join an agency in a PR role, I never looked back! From there, I was lucky enough to work for various agencies, with clients of all sizes and in a variety of industries, and learn from some of the best in the field.

After about 15 years working for others, I decided to forge my own path and started Kaiona Communications. Now, a little over two years in, I’ve had the opportunity to work with amazing clients in industries I’m passionate about. I’ve always believed that the more passionate you are about your work, the better the outcomes—and this has proven true through the successes I’ve helped my clients achieve.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has certainly not been a smooth road, but I don’t think I would be where I am today if it were.

My best learning experiences have come from the challenges I have faced. For example, at my last agency before starting Kaiona Communications, I took on additional business development responsibilities, pitching potential clients. As expected with any sales execution, there were more “no’s” and consistent pushback rather than an immediate “yes.” This proved to be an invaluable lesson for me, as I now have to constantly pitch myself and my agency to keep my business growing, and I understand how to better meet the needs of potential clients.

As with most business owners, especially in a service-based industry, I constantly face the struggle every month of “will my clients re-sign,” “will I have enough clients next month,” or even “do I have enough manpower to handle the clients I have now, and still prospect for more?”

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Kaiona Communications?
Kaiona Communications is a boutique public relations consultancy specializing in strategic media relations, storytelling, and brand visibility. We partner with purpose-driven brands, founders, and growing companies to help them secure impactful media coverage and build credibility with key audiences.

We focus on organic visibility—securing press coverage, interviews, thought-leadership, and speaking opportunities that position clients as trusted experts. Our expertise covers media relations, creative pitching, brand messaging, and proactive story development. We also offer organic social support and event planning to amplify and integrate PR efforts across channels.

We have depth in the pet industry, nonprofits, mission-driven organizations, B2B technology, health and wellness, and travel and hospitality. However, what unites our clients isn’t just industry — it’s ambition. We work best with brands ready to elevate their presence.

Kaiona Communications stands out for its highly personalized, strategic approach. As a boutique firm, we avoid mass pitching and generic media lists. Each outreach is thoughtful, tailored, and centered around compelling story angles for journalists. We prioritize long-term relationships with clients and media, focusing on placements that support business goals, not vanity metrics.

We are proud of the trust we build and the credibility we help clients earn by delivering integrated positioning, clarity, and strategy—not just press. We work closely with founders to help them place their stories in meaningful outlets, build lasting industry authority, and unlock new opportunities that set them apart.

We want readers to know strong PR is about narrative, not noise. Done well, it builds authority, opens doors, and fuels growth. Kaiona Communications helps brands tell the right stories to the right audiences at the right time.

Any big plans?
I plan to continue building Kaiona Communications into a top agency focused on the pet, non-profit, health and wellness, and travel and hospitality industries.

Currently, we mainly work with brands and agencies on retainer and mid to high-level project and campaigns, but in the near future, we will be working on offering some smaller starter service packages to help brands that want to get their feet wet in PR, but aren’t quite ready to jump into the deep end just yet. More to come!
