Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregoire Devin.
Gregoire, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a French painter and sculptor based in Paris. I started creating artworks almost 15 years ago. I have the opportunity to travel a lot for my exhibitions, particularly in the USA, the Middle East, and Asia. My travels and my encounters give me a lot of inspiration to create. I am an entrepreneur and a creator at heart, and I always have ideas in mind to do new things. I like new challenges. I am a self-taught artist which gave me a lot of strength and determination to achieve the goals I set for myself. I came to Miami last December to exhibit my paintings and sculptures at Context Art Miami and to launch the Fall/Winter 2022 collection of my clothing brand that I created last year. We took the opportunity to do the photoshoot in South Beach and we loved doing it under the Miami sun.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The path was strewn with a lot of pitfalls, and it was difficult to get there. I learned little by little to find a solution to all the problems which made me grow and made me stronger. Going into Fashion is a new major challenge that motivates me a lot. I am brought to meet new people from another environment than Art with new constraints but also new satisfactions. We work on the collections as a team, which changes me from Art where I work largely alone. There is a real exchange of ideas and from all of this comes great energy. It’s very satisfying.
As you know, we’re big fans of Grégoire DEVIN. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Grégoire DEVIN is my artist name but it is also a brand now. I create works of art that I exhibit internationally but I also sign ready-to-wear collections that I also want to distribute worldwide. We work on small limited and numbered series for Men and Women on collections that are both streetwear and chic. Each design is created by me in my own style which is recognizable in all my works. Each product of the brand is made with the greatest attention to offer everyone an almost unique quality garment.
What were you like growing up?
When I was younger, I was quite shy. I was in my own world, and I was concerned about the gaze of others. I was already quite creative and played guitar 8 hours a day. I drew regularly and was attentive to detail and harmony whether in the music or in the calligraphic drawings that I made. I built myself little by little keeping in mind that I will do something big later without knowing what exactly. Above all, I learned over time that this could only come with hard work and determination. Today I have an inexhaustible energy that allows me to fulfill all my desires.
