Community Highlights: Meet Gladys Mambie of Pédagofle & Natural Spanish with Miss Gladys

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gladys Mambie.

Hi Gladys, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started in 2015, a Youtube Channel to help Hispanic people to learn French from zero, and for those that already had some knowledge, get the better pronunciation. Two thousand people subscribed in the first year. In 2016, I decided to emigrate from Venezuela to the U.S., and unfortunately, I had to stop producing videos, I was adapting to this new place.

After 3 years, I decided to check and see my channel, I was surprised when I saw 16k subscribers with no activity for 3 years. That’s when I decided to keep going and set the goal to reach 100K subscribers which were achieved 2 months ago. I also started a paid French course for smaller groups and a conversation club on Patreon. 2 years ago I open another Youtube Channel to teach Spanish and French to English speakers and over 3k people have subscribed.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t. My biggest struggle was leaving my country, my routine, and my safe job. I started from the scratch in U.S. I used to work a lot, I couldn’t afford a computer at first, then when I did, I was working in several schools as a French and Spanish teacher, I had so much work, and I didn’t know how to edit videos, all this work was made for my brother before.

Then in 2018, my current husband, motivated me to keep going, he is a wedding videographer, so he helped me with the software to edit videos and cameras. I learned all that and I continued with my channel until now. My channel’s name is PédagoFLE. The Spanish – French Channel is Miss Gladys.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about PédagoFLE & Natural Spanish with Miss Gladys?
PédagoFLE is a tool for Hispanic people struggling with French Language grammar and pronunciation. I prepare the lessons, I am a qualified French Teacher, I worked in Alliance Française in Caracas-Venezuela, for 7 years and I lived in France for 8 months, all this experience allows me to prepare high-quality lessons.

What my subscribers and students say about what sets me apart is my method of teaching, because I keep it simple and I make them speak naturally, also being a Hispanic myself, makes me understand their struggles too when they are learning French, I already went through all of it.

I have a passion to teach and I love to help people, that’s why also, I have uploaded a part of my knowledge on Youtube which is free for people who have access to the internet but can’t afford a course. I also offer small online group lessons for people who can pay. Natural Spanish Miss Gladys has the same principle for English Speakers wanting to learn Spanish and some French.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Absolutely. Professionally wise, it taught us how to reinvent ourselves. I still used to go visit some students to teach them, and the covid crisis helped me to switch my business 100 percent online.
