Today we’d like to introduce you to Genevieve Dolan.
Hi Genevieve, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Born and raised in Chicago as one of five children, I’ve always been outgoing. My parents were active and my mom always loved glamor, so beauty, fashion, and health have always interested me. From a young age, I loved experimenting with different makeup and skincare products with my mom and sisters.
A shopping spree to beauty store Bluemercury was always a treat after school in high school! But when cystic acne set in, I became informed about the pharmaceutical side of healing, as I was prescribed medication for my skin issues and other maladies up until my early 20s. Unfortunately, my body just didn’t react that well to these medications and I eventually stopped taking them.
Turning away from pharmaceutical skincare cures led me to explore a more holistic approach to my health and, through my own experiences with nutritionists and integrative medicine specialists, I developed a passion for healing the body from the inside out. After attending the college of Charleston, I worked in a few different industries. After stints in finance, tech and event planning, I decided to tap into the passions from my teenage years- beauty and wellness.
I was eager to share the wellness solutions that had worked for me so that others could find balance as well. In 2020, I was presented an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up- to create my own line of soothing and restorative skincare products. I worked with a chemist and co-packer on a skincare approach that blended science and nature to create products that delivered the balance, nutrients, and support I had benefited from in my beauty routine, so that others could enjoy those same benefits as well.
We developed a formula that worked for my skin (a combination of acne-prone, dry, and sensitive) that included ingredients full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Throughout my life, I’ve heard a lot about the idea that there is nothing easy about achieving greatness and conquering challenges. While I’ve created a brand that aims to provide ease to someone’s everyday life, I can’t say the road thus far has been necessarily “easy” or “smooth.”
My passion for beauty and wellness makes parts of this journey fun and exciting, but there have been some obstacles a long way. From business partners to influencer marketing, there are always hurdles. The skincare industry is saturated with newcomers and brands with decades of consumer relations, so the competition is fierce in the space.
I think building a business and learning the industry simultaneously has been the biggest challenge. There’s a lot I thought I knew as a consumer, but I have learned so much more as a brand in the space. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t trade anything for the growth I’ve achieved in the last couple of years, both in my business and my personal life.
