Devon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a native Miami girl and a proud ’90s kid, who grew up during the best time in this vibrant city, filled with beautiful memories and moments. After graduating, I moved to Europe and spent some time living abroad. But eventually, my heart led me back to Miami, where I decided to raise my family —in a place I loved dearly (and yes, I desperately missed pastelitos and cafecito!).
Coming back to my hometown now as a mom made me realize how challenging it was to find family-friendly activities in Miami. I noticed that most guides focused on places up north, but there was little dedicated to our amazing city. That’s when I decided to start my blog, using my 10 years of marketing and social media experience to help other parents navigate the best kid-friendly activities, events, and local spots in Miami.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road! Like any journey, there have been bumps along the way. As a mom of two toddlers with a full-time job running my own marketing agency, I like to do it all at once, which can sometimes feel like a juggling act!
Building the blog from scratch came with its own set of hurdles, from late nights and self-doubt to figuring out the best ways to connect with other local families. Competing with larger platforms and making sure my voice stood out took time and persistence.
None of us are perfect or have it all figured out, and it took me a while and a lot of growing up to realize that we’re all just winging it, so we might as well have fun along the way!

Mom Approved Miami is a community-driven blog and guide dedicated to helping families discover the best kid-friendly activities, events, and local gems right here in Miami.
As a mom of two I know firsthand how tough it can be to find quality, family-friendly experiences that are actually worth the time. That’s why I’m committed to providing honest, fun, and practical content that makes life a little easier—and a lot more enjoyable—for parents and kids alike.
What sets Mom Approved Miami apart is my genuine approach. I don’t just curate lists; I test out these activities with my own family, sharing the real, unfiltered experience—quirks, mishaps, and all! I embrace authenticity and strive to create a welcoming space where all families feel seen and included, regardless of their background. I especially love showcasing small, locally-run family businesses that are the heartbeat of our community. Supporting and uplifting these businesses is a big part of what I do!
My mission is simple: to help families, local or new/visiting enjoy Miami to the fullest while supporting our local community. And always keeping it real, because we all know parenting isn’t perfect, but it sure can be fun!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding a mentor or building a strong network starts with putting yourself out there and being genuinely curious about others. My best advice is to start by engaging with people in your community—whether that’s attending local events, joining online groups related to your interests, or reaching out directly to people whose work you admire. Don’t be afraid to make the first move; a friendly introduction can go a long way!
What’s worked well for me is focusing on building real relationships. I look for connections that feel authentic rather than transactional. I’ve found that being open, sharing my journey, and asking questions helps me find people who truly resonate with my goals and values. It’s also important to remember that mentorship can come in many forms—sometimes, it’s a brief conversation or a piece of advice that makes all the difference.
Above all, be yourself, be open to learning, and remember that networking is more about building meaningful relationships than just growing your contact list.
