Community Highlights: Meet Carolina Fonseca of Purepower Cycle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Fonseca.

Carolina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story didn’t start with the intention of building something big — it started with a simple desire to do something that truly fulfilled me.

At the beginning, all I wanted was to teach my classes. Cycling gave me purpose, energy, and a sense of connection I hadn’t experienced before. It was never about creating a brand or growing a business — it was about how it made me feel, and how I could share that feeling with others.

Over time, that passion naturally evolved. What began as something small and personal started to resonate with more people, and little by little it grew into what is now Purepower Cycle — a space built not just for fitness, but for transformation, discipline, and community.

The journey hasn’t been linear. I’ve faced setbacks, financial challenges, and moments of doubt — especially while expanding the business and navigating complex processes. But every obstacle reinforced the same principle I share in my book A puro pedal: you don’t stop pedaling when it gets hard — that’s exactly when you pedal harder.

Today, I continue to build — not just businesses, but experiences and opportunities for others to grow. What started as something that filled me, became something that now helps fill others too. And that, more than anything, is what keeps me going.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.

Behind what people see today, there have been many moments of uncertainty, setbacks, and emotional challenges. When I was just starting, I was going through a very difficult time in my personal life. I was dealing with a deep depression after a separation, and suddenly I found myself alone, responsible for a small business that was just beginning. At the time, I didn’t fully understand what I was going through — I just knew I had to keep showing up.

Looking back, that period became one of the most defining chapters of my life.

Cycling became my anchor. It gave me structure, purpose, and a way to process everything I was feeling. Little by little, it helped me rebuild myself — mentally, emotionally, and physically. What once felt like a breaking point became the foundation of my strength.

Then came 2020 and the pandemic, which brought a completely new level of challenge. Navigating uncertainty, closures, and financial pressure while trying to keep the business alive was incredibly difficult. There were moments where everything felt at risk.

But through all of it, I kept moving forward.

As the business evolved into Purepower Cycle, each obstacle reinforced something I deeply believe: growth doesn’t come from comfort — it comes from resilience, consistency, and the willingness to keep going even when things don’t make sense.

That experience also shaped the message behind my book A puro pedal — that even in the hardest moments, even when you feel lost, you can still move forward. You can still pedal.

Today, I don’t see those struggles as setbacks. I see them as the reason I became stronger — and the reason I now know I’m capable of achieving things far beyond what I once imagined.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Purepower Cycle is more than a fitness studio — it’s a mindset-driven experience built around transformation, discipline, and connection.

We specialize in indoor cycling and strength training, but what truly defines us is how we make people feel. Every class is intentionally designed to be immersive — not just a workout, but an experience that challenges you physically and elevates you mentally.

One of the things that truly sets us apart is our music and production. Our instructors are also DJs, which means every class features live-mixed music in real time. It’s not a playlist — it’s a curated, dynamic sound experience that adapts to the energy of the room. On top of that, we operate lighting live during the class, creating a full sensory environment that feels more like a performance than a traditional workout.

We are also known for our strong sense of community and high standards. From instructor training to class structure, everything is built with intention, discipline, and consistency. We don’t just focus on results — we focus on how people grow through the process.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the culture we’ve created. Purepower is a space where people come to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with themselves — where they feel seen, challenged, and empowered.

Over the years, we’ve grown into multiple locations and expanded our offerings, but we’ve stayed true to our essence: creating powerful experiences that go beyond fitness.

If there’s one thing I want readers to know, it’s this — Purepower is not just a class you take, it’s something you feel. And once you experience it, it stays with you.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t really see my journey in terms of luck — I see it in terms of decisions, resilience, and consistency.

There were moments that some people might call “bad luck” — going through a personal separation while starting my business, facing depression, navigating the uncertainty of the pandemic in 2020, and having to carry the full responsibility of a growing operation on my own. None of those moments felt lucky at the time. They felt heavy, overwhelming, and at times, very uncertain.

But looking back, those same moments shaped me the most.

If anything, I believe what people often call “luck” is really preparation meeting opportunity. I was willing to keep showing up, even when I didn’t fully understand what I was going through. I kept teaching, building, and moving forward — and over time, that consistency created results.

With Purepower Cycle, every step forward came from effort, discipline, and the ability to adapt. Of course, there are always external factors you can’t control, but what defines the outcome is how you respond to them.

So I wouldn’t say luck played a major role — I would say resilience did.

And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that even in the hardest moments, when everything feels uncertain, you can still create your own direction by choosing not to stop.
