Today we’d like to introduce you to Arlene Smith
Arlene, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a nurse of 30 years, we were not trained to utilize alternative therapies. As I went on my own healing journey I wanted to expose my community of Black women to effective complimentary and alternative holistic healing therapies. This led me to create Zen RN Holistic Nursing. I provide a safe space for women to heal not only physically but also emotionally and spiritually.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a new business, the first year is always the hardest. The challenge of securing clients has been ongoing, Marketing yourself and managing social media. In addition to overcoming the belief that some have that holistic therapy is not science or medicine based.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a registered nurse for 30 years and I have worked in several aspects of the healthcare system. Our healthcare system is not set up for healing, it is for managing diseases. I wanted to be apart of the solution and as a health and wellness coach, I can; by helping women to heal not only physically, but by peeling away the layers to heal emotionally and spiritually.
I am my clients health advocate. I encourage them to be the best version of themselves through loving encouragement, yoga, pilates, meditation and several other holistic modalities.
I am most proud of the work that I do giving back to my community. Black women deserve the support that others have found effective for generations.
What sets me apart is as a black practitioner, I am able to relate to the unique micro- aggressions that take its toll on the metal health of black women and I am able to connect more authentically with their struggles.
I start with a complimentary 30-min holistic health care assessment, and I customize a care plan for each clients specific needs.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The art of listening without being judgmental, Empathy and compassion. Patiences and motivational skills
