Hi Andrea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Andrea Casanova Albarran, Founder & CEO of From Caviar. I would love to tell you how From Caviar was born and how it came to be, shall we?
Let’s go back in time to high school. During my teen years, I was very self-conscious and found my hair to truly be the essence of my own self-confidence. With my long curly messy hair, I always felt like I could combat the world & shine.
As I went along with my life and moved to New York City to pursue my Undergrad degree at Parsons School of Design for Business & Design Management and my MS at New York University for Real Estate Development and Finance, what was once my solid foundation for self-love, my long curly locks, were shedding at a higher abnormal rate. Stress. Yep, I said it, stress.
Living the chaotic New York City life and feeling like the world was on my shoulders was emitting too much pressure, which resulted in hormonal hair loss. After numerous nightmares and a trashcan full of my hair, I decided to go into a big-brand hair extensions shop and buy myself a pair of clip-in hair extensions for $300 USD.
Suddenly, I felt as if I could breathe all over again, and my inner self-confidence reappeared so beautifully. However, this magic only seems to have lasted a few weeks or so. By week four, my big-name extensions were looking ratty, knotted, brittle, and felt as if I was holding hay in my hands – disgusting, I know.
As I was sitting in my living room dreaming of the perfect set of high-quality hair extensions, I decided to go on a personal mission and find myself the best hair in the world, virgin Slavic hair.
After inquiring with the few people within the United States that “sells” this kind of hair, I found a. the customer service was frightening (to say the least), b. the hair seemed very suspicious and not natural virgin Slavic hair, and c. the prices I was getting quoted were absurd.
I took the matter into my own hands and started connecting with genuine fellow peers and family in Europe. After speaking with so many people in Slavic cities and towns, I connected with numerous women within the natural hair industry within Russia, Polland, and Ukraine and slowly started plugging all the pieces together. After many months and a plethora of all sorts of interactions, I met my lovely team in Russia and Ukraine and decided to create a business out of it.
The joyful feelings I felt as soon as I touched and felt the Slavic hair on my head were simply unparalleled. My mission is now to make every single woman wearing From Caviar feel powerful, unstoppable, beautiful, but more than anything, like a badass woman who can conquer anything.
Coming from an all-girl educational system and being raised by a single mother with two strong independent sisters by my side, I am all about women empowerment. Women should empower women; we should help each other grow, learn, succeed, and even recommend each other the best hair globally for your new perfect set of extensions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge for From Caviar has been the Russia-Ukraine conflict. We source our virgin Slavic hair from Russia, Ukraine, and Poland – so given the tragic current events, our supply chain was disrupted entirely.
We had to figure out new ways to keep our business up and running, all while trying to reconnect our supply chain. It was difficult, but we got it done.
