Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Zuriarrain.
Hi Alex, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Miami, Florida, the son of Cuban immigrants who came to the United States as children. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the challenges my family faced—financial struggles, adapting to a new culture, and learning a new language—while striving to achieve the American dream. These experiences instilled in me a deep sense of resilience and an unwavering work ethic. My grandfather, a man of integrity and discipline, further shaped my character by teaching me the values of honesty, ethics, transparency, and the importance of continuous improvement on physical, intellectual, and emotional levels.
I attended Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, one of Miami’s most rigorous all-male Jesuit institutions, where I honed my leadership skills and academic foundation. In 2001, I was honored to be selected as a Park Scholar at North Carolina State University—the only student from Florida awarded that distinction that year. While pursuing my undergraduate studies, I was drawn to psychology, fascinated by the complexities of the human mind and how that knowledge would benefit me as a future physician. At NC State, I excelled academically and was recognized for leadership, scholastic achievement, and exceptional personal promise.
I went on to earn my medical degree at the Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico, where I trained fluently in both English and Spanish. My surgical career began with a five-year residency in general surgery at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where I became a board-certified general surgeon. It was there that I solidified my calling to pursue plastic and reconstructive surgery, which led me to complete three years of additional training at the Cleveland Clinic Florida.
My passion for aesthetic surgery inspired me to undertake an additional fellowship through the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, where I further specialized in advanced aesthetic procedures. Today, I hold four board certifications—from the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, and the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery. This rare combination makes me one of the few surgeons in the United States with this breadth of training and expertise.
For the past eight years, I have been in private practice in South Miami, Florida, as the owner and operator of a QUAD A (formerly QUAD ASF) accredited surgical facility. I lead a team of highly specialized nurses dedicated not only to achieving exceptional results but also to upholding the highest standards of patient safety and care.
Everything I have accomplished has been guided by a relentless pursuit of excellence and the goal of being a master surgeon for my patients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to becoming a surgeon is never easy. It is marked by challenges, relentless rigor, and an unwavering commitment to both the craft and the calling. My journey has been defined by a constant drive to become the very best surgeon I can be — a pursuit reflected in the distinction of holding four board certifications. This achievement represents my commitment to going above and beyond in order to master my discipline.
Along the way, there have been many sleepless nights, countless hours of study and training, and significant time away from my family. The sacrifices have been great, but each one has been in service of my patients and the profession I love. Today, those challenges and sacrifices form the foundation of the surgeon I have become.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Zuri Plastic Surgery?
What should we know?
Our practice holds one of the most rigorous certifications in the country, QUAD A (formerly Quad ASF). This accreditation is only awarded to facilities that meet and exceed the standards of the Florida Department of Health, and it is as demanding as hospital-level accreditation for ambulatory surgical facilities. Patient safety, specialized care, and excellence are at the core of everything we do.
What do you do, what do you specialize in / what are you known for?
I specialize in aesthetic plastic surgery for patients across all stages of life, from young adults to the elderly. My work encompasses procedures of the face, neck, eyelids, ears, breasts, and body — including abdominoplasty, liposuction of the torso and extremities, and radiofrequency skin tightening. I also perform complex excision of skin from multiple areas.
In addition to surgical offerings, I am the owner of Hydrology Wellness, Miami’s premier anti-aging and longevity destination, which focuses on non-surgical wellness, beauty, and health treatments. This dual focus allows us to provide patients with both surgical and non-surgical pathways to achieve their goals.
What sets you apart from others?
I am one of the very few surgeons in the United States with four board certifications — in Plastic Surgery, Surgery, Cosmetic Surgery, and Facial Cosmetic Surgery. This distinction reflects my relentless pursuit of excellence and my commitment to mastering every aspect of aesthetic surgery.
Equally important, our team includes five highly specialized registered nurses who receive advanced training in plastic surgery care — from pre-op to intra-op to post-op. Their expertise ensures patients receive world-class, consistent, and compassionate care at every step.
What are you most proud of, brand-wise?
We are most proud of our patients’ voices. With more than 1,000 reviews across multiple platforms, our reputation has been built on patient trust, safety, and satisfaction. For over eight years, we’ve been dedicated to providing the highest levels of plastic surgical care while prioritizing safety above all else.
What do you want readers to know about your brand, offerings, services, etc.?
At Zuri Plastic Surgery and Hydrology Wellness, our brand is built on ethics, transparency, honesty, patient safety, and uncompromised results. We provide a full ecosystem of care — from transformative surgeries to advanced non-surgical wellness therapies — all seamlessly integrated with a focus on communication, detail, and long-term outcomes.
We want readers to know that choosing our practice means entering into a partnership with a team fully committed to their safety, their goals, and their journey toward looking and feeling their very best.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue growing Zuri Plastic Surgery alongside Hydrology Wellness, with a commitment to offering patients the very best in plastic surgical care while also supporting their overall health and well-being.
At Hydrology Wellness, I plan to expand our services to further care for the whole person — addressing not only physical health but also beauty and rejuvenation through both surgical and non-surgical options.
Looking ahead, I also intend to bring another board-certified plastic surgeon onto our team at Zuri Plastic Surgery, while continuing to build and enhance Hydrology Wellness as a premier destination for comprehensive, patient-centered care.
