Check out Yawdy Quan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yawdy Quan.

Yawdy, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1995 but raised in a city called Portmore in St. Catherine. In 2003 I migrated to the Cayman Islands for a short period of time before moving back to Jamaica in 2004 after Hurricane Ivan rocked the Grand Cayman Island. After moving back to Jamaica, I then migrated to Hollywood, Florida, in 2006. Adjusting to the American lifestyle wasn’t a huge challenge for me, but I did have to adapt to another culture apart from mine. In high school, I threw parties and was an official DJ with a group along with some of my peers we formed called Top Shotta Entertainment. While entering university, my heart changed, and I wanted to start making the music instead of spinning it. So I started to pursue my career more as an artist even though I have already been writing since I was 8 years old, This journey has not been easy but I had a major shift in content producing when I had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ in 2013 that shifted my morals and viewpoints of my craft.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I make music, this includes songwriting, mixing & mastering, and well as performing. I’m versatile, I like to create reggae, dancehall, hip hop, rap, afrobeats, R&B, EDM/House, and some reggaeton music. As stated, my inspiration is creating clean, fun music for my generation to uplift them in an era where there is so much negativity being promoted through lifestyle & activities through the music. The foundation of my music is love, the same foundation that is found in Christ. I am not a religious person, but I freely express the relationship I have with God through the music. Stating my weaknesses, struggles, and also victories in these 24 years of life so far and six years of knowing his truths. I want when people hear my music, they can press repeat or skip and feel a burden lift from them or just joy from the music after they’ve listened.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
The advice I can tell other artists is that when you find your momentum or niche DO NOT STOP. Sometimes life will throw things at you to slow you down, but you can’t stop going because it is hardest to start back. New artists will arise, the fans will move somewhere else, but if you’re continuing your journey they will be on the journey with you and more people will come along. Your dedication and commitment will pay off, even if you don’t see it right now.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have new content coming soon but for now my current works are on YouTube. Soundcloud, Spotify, Apple Music, and other platforms. You can find me by my artist name “Yawdy Quan.”
