Check out Tiffany Joy & Maqui Reyes’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Joy & Maqui Reyes.

Tiffany Joy & Maqui, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’m a singer/songwriter from northern Californian (Tiffany Joy) and my partner (Maqui) is a musician and Composer from Bogotá, Colombia. We met one fated evening at a musical event in Buenos Aires (2010) and decided to set our solo musical careers aside to form a duet which we lovingly coined “IndiviDúo” … a play on words since we were two solo acts becoming one “duet” or “dúo” in Spanish. The past nearly 9 years we have dedicated our lives to each other and to making and sharing music all over the world.

Our journey began in 2011 when we teamed up with celebrated Argentine music producer Oscar “El Chino” Asencio to produce our first six-song EP. In 2013 we toured in Bogotá, Colombia with our first single “Sueño”, a song that was widely accepted in Colombia, making it into the top 10 on various pop radio stations, along with its music video (filmed in San Francisco, CA), which was in rotation on various popular Latin American music video channels. At the beginning of 2014 we returned to California for an extensive tour throughout Northern California and filmed another video clip for our next single “Si Me Vieras Tú” in the iconic San Francisco setting “Clarion Alley.”

In March of 2014 we returned to Colombia to engage in a press tour for the single “Si Me Vieras tú” – which lead to the offer of our own TV segment on the popular entertainment talk show “Bravíssimo.” 2014 ended on a high note for IndiviDúo – we launched our third single “Tú-Yo” and performed to a crowd of 1200 at the renowned Astor Plaza Theatre (Opening for Dominican Singer/Songwriter Vicente García), as well as enjoyed our own sold out show at the Hard Rock Café (Bogotá).

After another successful tour through northern California (USA) in Jan/Feb 2015, we returned to Buenos Aires to complete the production of our first full-length album “Sueño.” In November 2015, we launched our album to packed crowd at the renowned music venue Kukaramakara in Bogotá, Colombia, and shortly after to a sold out crowd in California (Angelica’s Redwood City).

In 2016 we launched our single “Pero Yo” a touching ballad that we composed for a dear friend who died unexpectedly a few years back. In July 2016, the we were invited to perform the song live on “Un Nuevo Día” (Telemundo Miami), one of the highest rated Hispanic networks in the USA.

In the beginning of 2017, four original songs off of our album “Sueño” were chosen to be featured on Colombia’s highest rated TV drama – “La ley del corazón”. The song with the most repercussions was the power ballad “Si dejo de creer” which saw the views for its lyric video on YouTube spike to nearly 400,000 in just two short months. In 2017 after getting married off the coast of Colombia and honeymooning in Cuba, we finished off the year with a European tour in which we visited 33 cities and 13 countries, with performances in Paris, Rome, Venice, Barcelona, Madrid, Alicante and Amsterdam.

We are currently touring in Argentina and Colombia, promoting tracks off of our new album “Mensajes” that we recently finished producing in Miami with our dear friend and stellar music producer Dan Warner (Luis Fonsi, Ricardo Arjona, Gaby Moreno). The first single off the album was “Desapercibida” launched in August, 2018, followed by “Amigo Tiempo” (September) and “De Repente” (November). The full EP is slated to launch in 2019.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We are singer/songwriters, storytellers really. We compose music, mostly in Spanish and perform live any all over the world and every chance we get. Our live show includes both our original music along with some unique covers. Our style is primarily pop fused with various genres ranging from bossa nova and boleros to salsa and cha-cha. We believe that music has the power to heal on many levels and we have seen this first hand by the energy generated through our music. The way we have seen music touch and transform lives has given us the strength to continue creating and sharing music for nearly the past decade. More specifically, due to the fact that we were born and raised in two completely different cultures (USA and Colombia) we have witnessed the fact that we have a unique opportunity to be a powerful voice advocating the importance of tolerance, respect and love above all. Music is the universal language and we have seen its power to unite and incite joy in the lives of those it touches.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Every once in a while a young artist will reach out to us and ask for advice. We find ourselves commonly urging the artists to “enjoy the journey” … it sounds cliché but if someone would have told us 10 years ago all of the twists and turns and ups and downs it would take to get us to where we are today, I’m not sure we would have believed them. The universe is wise and it almost always knows better than we do, so even though it’s important to have goals and reach for them, every single day of this crazy journey is a gift and even when things don’t go the way you planned, they are most likely going the way they need to go to get you to your next step, which will lead to another and another… it’s all part of the wild ride that is this life we’ve been given. Another piece of advice would be… stay curious and humble. Try to always be open to learning, to improving your skills as an artist, as a performer, as a human being. There are endless opportunities to improve and humility and kindness get you a lot farther than ego.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
