ShortyDooWop, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
As a child, I grew up in Providence, RI where I was heavily influenced by NY hip-hop. I used to be in a girl in a breakdancing crew and I used to rap as a teenager. I was always influenced by the hip-hop culture.
A mother of 3 kids who donated her kidney to the father of her children. Have a podcast with her dj son. My son is DJ Finesco, age 17. After my mother died, I connected with music to cope with the pain and learned to dj myself.
I now DJ at Celsius Night Club in Fort Myers on Thursdays for SoulFly Thursdays.
I dj for the 239 Acoustic Affairs at Headpinz in Fort Myers on Tuesdays.
I dj at eh Nemo’s Bar & Bistro inside of Headpinz in Fort Myers on Saturdays.
I have a guest appearance on air on Fly 98.5, a hip-hop station in Fort Myers, where I do a segment keeping you updated with hip-hop news on First Lady Niki’s afternoon show. The segment is called Word On The Curb.
I have a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Hodges University. I have a Masters in New Media Journalism from Full Sail University, while working full time and raising three kids.
My next goal is to have my own radio show at a hip-hop station. My radio idol is Angie Martinez. I want to be the Angie Martinez of my city.
Creative professionals face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I think the biggest challenge is having patience in knowing that it won’t happen overnight. A lot of artists give up, you have to put in the work and realize it will take years for most of us.
