Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Vasilevsky.
Hi Victoria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hi, VoyageMIA Team! Thank you so much, it is a pleasure. Well, art has always been a natural part of my life. I have found myself drawn to different creative expressions such as painting, pottery making, drawing, and fashion designing. However, when it came time for college, I opted for a bachelor’s degree in marketing and PR, thinking it was the practical choice for a stable career.
During my marketing studies, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing. It became clear that my true passion lay in the fashion world. To bridge the gap between my creative interests and formal education, I decided to pursue a master’s degree in fashion merchandising and retail management.
That step turned out to be a game-changer for me. I landed an incredible opportunity as a personal stylist at Bergdorf Goodman, where I contributed to the Chanel department. Working with a diverse clientele, European celebrities, and public figures, I gained invaluable insights into the fashion industry from both creative and business perspectives. At this point, I realized that retail was just a stepping stone on my path, and I was seeking more entrepreneurial opportunities.
Driven by this desire, I began developing my fashion styling portfolio, seeking recognition within the industry. I collaborated with prominent magazines, artists, fashion brands, and photographers. These collaborations not only expanded my creative horizons but also allowed me to cultivate a distinctive styling vision that is truly my own.
To sum it up, my journey has been a winding one, from a marketing and PR background to personal styling at Bergdorf Goodman, and ultimately, to establishing myself as a fashion stylist and creative director. This journey has not only honed my skills but also deepened my passion for the world of fashion, and I am excited for what the future holds.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a professional working in the fashion industry, I can confidently say that the path to success is anything but easy.
When it comes to entrepreneurship, stepping into the unknown can be intimidating and full of challenges. The most difficult aspect of this journey is conquering the fear of failure and finding the courage to start your own business.
However, if you stay dedicated, keep pushing forward, and truly love what you do, you can beat this challenge and set yourself up for a successful career in your field.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a fashion stylist and creative director based in NYC, originally from Eastern Europe. I specialize in editorial styling, wardrobe styling, creative and art direction, and most recently, model portfolio development. What sets me apart, I believe, is my commitment to adding a touch of classic elegance and sophistication to all of my styling projects. This approach has resonated with many of my clients, drawing them specifically to my work.
Now, when it comes to what I’m most proud of in my work, it’s the incredible connections I’ve made along the way. You see, fashion isn’t just about garments; it’s about building genuine relationships and mastering the art of making someone feel truly special. The bonds I’ve formed with clients, colleagues, and designers have been incredibly rewarding, and it’s what keeps me inspired and motivated every day.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
