Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzane Bacelar.
Suzane, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi, I’m Suzane, the matriarch of a pretty awesome family – we’ve got a tween girl, the cutest Havanese dog, and my better half-husband. Family is everything to me!
My passion for family filmmaking and photography has come from watching my own family grow and change. I am obsessed with finding ways to slow down time and having the ability to remember every detail of my daughter’s childhood and our family moments together.
You know how parents sometimes say, “I miss when my child used to (you fill in the blank)”? I wanted to capture those moments – big or small – and make them super special! Being a mom, I get it. Kids change all the time – their interests, how they talk, their mannerisms, how they connect with you, everything!
So whether it’s a random Sunday or a big day, I turn family moments into a memory time capsule in motion with all the feels and sounds.
I’m all about taking families back in time with my films and photos, so parents and children can revisit their past while preserving it for the future. My work is very nostalgic and all about those warm fuzzy feelings, bringing people back to how they felt in a certain moment. And also reminding kids how much they’re loved.
I found myself drawn to video. It’s the perfect way to tell meaningful family stories – from births to grandparent legacies, and even just a regular reading time together at home (and yet, isn’t this just everything?). I’m on a mission to capture those moments and interactions that could easily slip away.
It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, but working with amazing families on their love journey gives so much meaning to life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Birth and family videography is a fairly new concept. Not many families know it’s a thing available to them. I wish I had my daughter’s birth documented in the video. Back then, I had pics to remember her cute face, but I didn’t have a video of that first cry.
Or how my husband’s face lit up when he saw her for the first time. Or even my first hello to her. And those little moments are fading away in my mind! But imagine having these incredible moments on video, where you can relive them over and over again. It’s a game-changer for families!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Family Filmmaker, creating films + photos for families that want more than traditional photography. Maternity, birth, newborn, family, and even grandparent moments – I’m here for it all!
Video tells a fuller story, it’s the closest thing to traveling back in time to a day in your family’s life. A family film turns your family moments into the memories you want your children to have, in motion, and with sound, preserved in a time capsule for parents and children.
Imagine never forgetting the sound of a laugh, the way we dance together, or the first time a little brother holds his sister – it’s all those tiny details we know we’ll miss someday. Life is lived in motion, and our memories should be too!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve been fortunate to have so many mentors, supporters, and cheerleaders who have played an important role in my life and business.
The list is so long that I’d need a novel to fit them all in! Today, though, I want to give a special shout-out to my family and my incredible fellow filmmakers at the FilmingLife Academy. Their support and inspiration keep me fueled on this journey.
