Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefano Nichele.
Hi Stefano, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started as a photographer back in 2014. I always loved being creative and finding ways to express myself. Certain moments are meant to be forever, and photography helped me to achieve that. Today I’ve been publish in many newspapers while working in Canada and that’s the biggest satisfaction knowing that the hard work and struggle paid off, but the road to bigger achievements is still long.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting from zero never easy! If you want to achieve little, you do little. If you want to be in a comfortable position, this is not it. It takes a lot of networking and social skills. I never had many because of language, I only spoke Italian with little English at the time I started. Having an accent didn’t help much either but slowly I got there with everything and it’s paying off.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialized in street, political, and events photography. I had a big opportunity in April 2022 to work for a political party in Canada as their main photographer during their campaign. The proudest moment was seeing my work recognized in many popular newspapers in Canada and connecting to 100s of people that today became close friends. What differentiates me from others is that I pay attention to every single detail, and I can capture 3 different scenes in one picture. I created my own style and every picture I took; it sets me apart from others because of all the work I put in the editing process.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for who’s starting photography, videography, or anything creative would be trust your guts, let your instinct drive you. If you feel it’s bad, delete that picture, delete that video and start over again. If you feel you’re doing it right, you are on the right path. When I was starting out, I always wanted to have a mentor or someone to explain me what I was doing wrong, growing my skills alone made me understand that we are our mentors, we need to trust ourselves more.
