Check Out Saliah Rice’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saliah Rice.

Hi Saliah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started over 12 years ago planning and designing events. The revenue wasn’t great but because of my gift, I would only do it for my kids, close friends and family. However, In April of 2018, A close friend of mine who also happens to be my cake decorator asked me to do a balloon design for her son’s baby shower. Uncertain if I could accomplish it, I asked her to buy the balloons and I would attempt it. I did it and it was perfect. It felt so natural. She posted it on her Facebook page and from that day on, I’ve been booked and busy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve definitely had some struggles along the way. Lack of funds to continue to grow the business and add inventory, providing more than what the customer paid for, trouble finding good employees, difficulties balancing growth and quality and empathy.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a full-time Permanent Housing Support Case Manager. My job is to help homeless individuals with a Mental Health and or Substance abuse diagnosis find and obtain housing. Also, connect them with services throughout the community that help keep them stabilized.

I’m also a full-time creative for my business Pop Balloon Decor Galore. I’m an event designer and planner. What sets me apart is being able to provide most of the services needed for myself and not having to outsource. Also, I specialize in balloon designs and can design a wide range of things with balloons. I’m most proud of being known as the balloon lady and being able to provide balloons for many businesses in and out of my city. I’ve designed for Novant Medical Park, Forsyth Country Club, Multiple schools and school systems, churches, Red Heart foundation and many more. My work was on the local news three times in 2021.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Humbleness, Empathy and Creativeness.
