Check Out Ruth Boselli’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruth Boselli.

Hi Ruth, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My history begins in Rosario, Argentina, where I was born and studied Fine Arts at the National University of Rosario. My artistic formation took place during Argentina’s return to democracy, a time of profound cultural awakening after years of dictatorship. In that climate of reflection and renewal, art became an essential form of expression. I participated in exhibitions and was part of the artist collective Rozarte, a group that emerged in response to the political and social transformations of the late 1980s and early 1990s. This experience deeply shaped my understanding of art as both a personal and collective language.

In 1992, I moved to Miami, which has been my home for more than three decades. Like many immigrants, I faced challenges and worked in different fields, often outside the arts. Despite this, my connection to artistic expression remained constant. While building a life, raising my two children, and becoming part of the vibrant and diverse cultural landscape of South Florida, I found ongoing inspiration in the convergence of cultures and the intensity of tropical light. These experiences have enriched my perspective and continue to inform and shape my work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path of an artist is shaped by both persistence and resilience. There were periods when professional and family responsibilities required my full attention, and my artistic production slowed or paused. However, my commitment to art never disappeared. It remained a constant part of me, and whenever I returned to creating, I did so with even greater clarity and purpose.

One of the most significant challenges has been finding meaningful opportunities to share my work. While I have participated in exhibitions and art fairs locally and internationally, navigating the art world can be complex, and artists are often expected to create opportunities for themselves. I have learned to remain persistent and proactive. These experiences have strengthened my voice and reaffirmed that art is not just a career for me—it is a lifelong necessity and a fundamental part of my identity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Painting is my preferred medium. I began by focusing primarily on portraiture, and over time my work gradually shifted toward nature. Texture and thick layers of paint have become defining elements of my recent pieces. I work on both small tiles and larger formats, allowing scale to influence the energy of each composition. The figures are intentionally imperfect — I deconstruct them, infusing them with expressive gestures that at times fracture their form, pushing them toward abstraction.
I am proud of my perseverance. I choose the joy of my craft over external validation or commercial success. My work is not driven by recognition, but by an inner commitment to create. The creative journey is my priority — above all else.

How do you define success?
Success, for me, is creating with integrity and freedom. It is sharing my work with others while staying true to my voice, and building a life where art sustains me both emotionally and materially. It is also continuing to evolve in my own journey — growing, exploring, and allowing my work to transform alongside me.
